I have a question and need opinions. Who should be making the tables ( who sits where at a wedding) the bride and/or groom or the grooms parents and brides parents. I feel the bride and groom should make them except for the parent tables which they should decide who sit at their own table. My fiances' mom is pushy and she keeps trying to make the table settings and now my fiance is saying she should do it. They are paying for a portion of the wedding but not the whol thing. I know who is who in the family and think it should be conveyed to me if certain people are not talking and cannot sit near each toher bt that is about it...I also think it is nice to mix the bride and grooms sde with couples from each side at the tables....to some extent...like for instance keeping 2 brothers and their wives together with maybe the brother and wife from the other side at the table....either way i think it is our wedding and we should make the tables....please give me feedback

Re: help! tables at the wedding
I did the whole list myself! I had input from my parents and his parents. There were some family members who I didn't know so I asked his mom to help.

The two of you should do them since you know EVERYONE (or should know everyone, I know it doesn't always work out that way). I would defintely ask for your parents' input for their tables and maybe some relatives you're not sure of.

I am giving everyone the list of people that they invited, tell them who is coming and let them figure it out.

Re: help! tables at the wedding
I am the official Devil's advocate!
I think his mom should have input because she has known these people FOREVER and most likely knows who should go where better than you. But, if you'd like to mix it up a bit, tell her that.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think you should give her a seating chart and a pen and send her on her way...you should sit down and do it together.
Good luck!

Re: help! tables at the wedding
I think I will probably sit down with my mom and do it, and have my FMIL work on their side of the family. My FI and I will deal with our friends. I have no problem with it being collaborative.

We are doing this. My FMIL told me that she did not want anything to do with doing the tables for her side so we are doing that and I am going to get imput from my parents on doing the tables for my family.

Re: help! tables at the wedding
my mom, his mom, DH and I all sat down at did it together..
I wrote everyone's names on post-its and I cut out tables and laid it out on the dining room table so that it would be like the hall was going to be set up and then we went at it.. it's soo much easier to do when you lay it all out.

Re: help! tables at the wedding
DH & I did the seating arrangements ourselves but it was pretty obvious for who would sit with who.
If you need her input ask for it or accept her suggestions as that, something to consider.
I don't think mixing your guest list in the room is a great idea. Your guests will be more comfortable sitting with people they know. For instance I would rather sit with a cousin then my sister's new brother in law.
