Help the Clueless: How to you clean your bathtub?

Ok ladies, you seem to have good advice on all matters, so heres a new topic. My mother was fortunate enough to be able to afford a cleaning person once a week. As such, I never learned the fine art of home cleaning by her side and I don't have the money to spend to hire someone. I've struggled and learned a bit on my own, but now I look to you oh great domestic goddesses for some guidance on the one area of the home that stumps me...

How the heck do you clean your bathtubs? I have a tub/show with tiled walls and a curtain. Now please, answer this question assuming I am an idiot. Don't just say 'I scrub the walls'. Tell me 'I spray magic scum remover onto the walls, and then take a soft toothbrush and scrub in a circular motion.' I've been trying, but am not pleased with my results. Thanks in advance for you assistance to the domestically challenged!

I use Tilex.. Well actually Ronnie cleans the tub and shower bc the smell makes me sick..

He sprays the walls and lets it sit for about 20 mins then he goes into the tub with flip flops on and his underware and he scrubs it down...

Then to make it shine I sprinkle AJAX all over the tub and let that sit and then rinse...

I fill up my bathtub with hot water & oxy clean and let it sit for 20 minutes or so, then i rinse it and scrub it once again with ajax and it looks like a brand new tub everytime. super white & sparkly!

I spray just about any type of soap scum/bleach continaining bathroom cleaner on the walls of the tub and let it sit for a while (I usually clean the rest of the bathroom while it works).

I get a really soft brush and go over the walls, paying particular attention to the grout. Then I rinse using the removable shower head. When my DH does it, he will dry the walls and go over it with a glass plus wipe to make them really shiny. I use soft scrub with no bleach for the tub (it was re-enameled and I read that bleach is bad for it. I figure the amount of bleach that runs into the tub won't hurt it.).

I use Dow bathroom cleaner and some spray stuff.We have a big scrubbing brush for the tub and use the spray for the inside of the shower.(can't remember the spray name)

I like Scrubbing Bubbles with bleach, actually anything with bleach will kill soap scum. I like Jenn's idea though, will have to try that since my husband is a dirty man (he works outside)! It isn't that hard and I don't clean the tiles all the time, usually those stay pretty clean, the tub is a different story though. Good Luck!

First, I spray the tiles with Tilex Soap Scum remover, then fill the tub with bleach and super hot water. I let it soak while I clean the rest of the bathroom, then drain it. Then I spray the tub with Tilex and scrub it, and the tiles with a brush, then rinse. Last, I spray the entire tub and tiles with a white vinegar/water mixture and wipe it down with paper towles. After every shower I use Scrubbing Bubbles Shower Shine, and that really helps keep things clean between weekend scrubbings.

wow - JennRenee - what a clean house you must live in! LOL

I clean my tub with Soft Scrub with bleach. I use a big brush and a lot of elbow grease. Between the cleanser and bleach, my tub is sparkling! I admit though, I don't scrub the tiles as often as I scrub the tub though!

Teri, I am compulsive about having a spotless kitchen and bathroom. My friends are always dropping in for surprise visits and running to my bathroom to see if they can catch me at a 'dirty' moment, LOL.

sorry no pic - have you ever seen the play Annie? Remember when all the girls are in the bathroom scrubbing away? That's what I look like cleaning!!!!! - using the same type of bucket and long brush! LOL

Jenn - that's too funny! I always fight with myself - I love a clean house and I'm a germ-freak, but I can also be lazy....it's a constant battle!

Soft Scrub on the tiling and the tub followed by good old Clorox, my favorite. Windex on the faucets. I love a sparkly tub!

For those of your whos husbands clean the bathroom LUCKY YOU !! when my DH does clean the bathroom his 'cleaning' is not the same as my cleaning. He'll just wipe of the counters and hes done.
JennRenee - is your DH cooperative when you leave a spotless bathroom ? sometimes i get annoyed because no matter what i clean (bathroom, kitchen, bedroom), he will find a way to leave something lying around, something on the floor and ruin my routine....

Anna, Of course not! He doesn't seem to realize that 'clean' and 'uncluttered' go hand in hand in my book! He's great at spraying the tiles and shower doors with Shower Shine after every shower, wiping the sink when he's done shaving, and things like that, but he can't seem to get the toothpaste back into the cabinet or his towel to laundry. I keep saying I'm going to draw him a map!!!
