Help! Very Tricky Invite Wording

Both my parents together are footing most of the cost of the wedding. Where it's tricky? They're divorced, and now both of them sport different last names.

If I were paying for most of the wedding, then I'd just word it, 'Jane Smith, together with her parents....' But I think they should both be given top billing, and not just as 'the parents.' How do I get around this? Thanks in advance.

Re: Help! Very Tricky Invite Wording

Actually what we did was..

We request the honour of your company
at the marriage of our children
Randi Beth
and
Matthew Lawrence
Saturday, the sixteenth of April
Two thousand and five
at seven c'clock in the evening
blah blah blah
SPACE

MomFirst and StepdadFirst Theirlast
DadFirst Dadlast
FMILFirst and FFILFrist Theirlast

We put their names at the bottom cause- it was a lot of names to list- I wanted their first and last names- specifically for my mom,,, and we did not need to write it out the formal way- cause it was at the bottom.

Re: Help! Very Tricky Invite Wording

I would definitely to

Mr Joe Smith and Mrs. Jane Doe
request the honour.....

ETA: You could also do

Mrs. Jane Doe and Mr. Joe Smith
Request...

because then there's less confusion and no one will think they're married to each other, as they might if you put his name first.

Re: Help! Very Tricky Invite Wording

The etiqutte books say Mom on one line, and then dad below. If remarried, you are supposed to list them with their spouses. Good luck - I hope your parents make this easy for you!!!

So, if not remarried

Ms. Joan Smith
and
Mr. James Smith
request honor of your presence at marriage of daughter
Julie Louise

If remarried:
Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Jones
and
Mr. and Mrs. James Smith
request honor of your presence at marriage of daughter
Julie Louise
