help w/ an affordable reception place

Hi all,

I'm looking for a reception place within an hour ride from Brooklyn, for under $100/person (that's the max but lower is better).

Any recommendations from those who have done it? I want it to be affordable but still be beautiful (I know, a lot to ask for :().

This whole process is starting to wear me out, and I'm just getting started. I appreciate the advice!

one of the places we looked at was stewart manor country club, i know it was very affordable and seemed really nice... you should try there, it is in the garden city area.

You might want to post this on the Brides Helping Brides webchat - you'll get a lot of responses. . . What kind of decor are you looking for? sleek and contemporary? on the water? country club? private home? How many guests are you hoping for? daytime or evening reception? There are LOTS of places that I'm sure will suit your needs - just let us know what kind of facility you like and the suggestions will come!

1st of all, thank you all for your suggestions :).

I will post this questions on the 'brides helping brides' section as well.
I posted it specifically here because most of you already already had your wonderful (I hope) weddings and can thus offer suggestions from personal experiences. It's hard to know if a place is good, especially when they're trying to sell to you. Thus all of your responses, as well as general reviews regarding services posted on this site are really helpful.

As for my actual planning:
We plan on having around 100 people, sometime early September.
Ideally I would like to have it in a catering hall - I guess I'm not over the idea of fairytales. The ceremony I would want to hold outside, so if the place has a garden, that would be great (for the ceremony and for the photoshoot). Having said that, I am not agains mansions or mannors, as long as they have gardens outside and look magical inside.
That's the ideal. As for reality, we'll see how affordable all this is. Oh yeah, it can't be more than an hour away from Brooklyn/NYC.

I would suggest the Westbury Manor, on Jericho Turnpike. It hold only two weddings at a time, they are very reasonably priced. The style is an old Mansion decorated in the Victorian stye. It has a gazibo and gardens to hold your ceremony outside. Very warm and intament. Good Luck!!

Definitely check out the Manor East . I live and I am getting married in Brooklyn so the Manor East is only about 40-45 minutes away.

Chateau La Mer in Lindenhurst is about $70 pp (plus tax/grat) on a Friday night in the fall...

Check out the Swan Club www.swanclub.com in Roslyn Harbor/Glenwood Landing.

The grounds are just beautiful - perfect for pictures!

We're having our ceremony there also - in the 'carriage house' by the gardens (they call it the 'Pavillion').

Reasonable too.....

I'll third that.

And James is GREAT to work with.

ETA oh yeah.. and Im getting married there. There's a Gazebo out front you can have the priest in/or in front of and you two can get married in front of it. We chose to get married indoors because there's a HUGE white fireplace that looks so gorgeous with teh skylights.

With the wedding, cocktail hour & reception on a Saturday I can without giving out too much detail tell you I am playing LESS than $9000 (after tax and grat) min of 100.

You could try Caffe on the Green or Douglaston Manor, both in Queens.

You should call The Riviera in Massapequa. I got a great price and was even able to add a few extras. I dealt with Michelle, if that helps. She was wonderful.

please check out the George Washington Manor. Our wedding was there and it was unbelievable, the service was incredible and we enjoyed every minute of it!! they have options, different menus and of course its cheaper if its on a fiday or a sunday and the month also plays a role, we were married In Jan. on a friday..we were on a budget and they fit right into it! We didnt want a weddng factory, just a quaint comfortable place and we were so pleased!! we couldnt have picked a better place!!!
