Help! Wedding Wand issues...

OK. So i decided to diy wedding ribbon wands. I bought some dowels cut them to 12 inches put the screw eyes in and attached ribbons. I think they're satin and a little less than 1 inch thick. (They're ribbons I saved from gifts from holidays that wrap boxes like a little coach wallet etc. etc.) I tied them up and they just hang dead. They didn't look so good when we took mock-up pics and whirled them around.

So I decided to cut them into 1/3s for ~1/4+' widths since I dont have thinner ribbon laying around, hoping they'd move around better if they were less weight each. They still hang a bit dead but whirl around a bit better. They still don't looks so nice and now look like kinky whips!

I'm at a loss. They're not looking as nice as the ones I've seen on the net. What KIND of ribbon is best for ribbon wands? Satin, double sided satin, grosgrain, organza, something else, I have no clue.

Any other recommendations?

I made mine with three strands of thin satin ribbon...like 1/4' ribbon, that way when I tied them at the eye, I basically had 6 strands in 3 colors on each wand

Here were some of them in process

And in action

This ribbon was lik always on sale at AC Moore for .33 per spool, and I probably used like 15 spools or so

I love this idea! Can you share where you bought the dowels from?
Thank you!

Thanks for the info! I'll buy some trial ribbon to test it out.

I couldn't find large packs of screw eyes that were smaller than #212 at my local home depot, so I bought the 212. The smaller screw eyes came in picture hanger packs so I didn't bother.

I couldn't find packs of dowels at michaels that I thought were thick enough for the screw eyes that I bought from home depot, so I bought a few 'test' dowels that were 36' long and cut them (from michaels). I wouldn't recommend this unless you have a table circular saw or something at home to cut the dowels...
