Help! What's the next step?
My wedding isn't until August 16, 2002. So far, I only have a DJ. I was wondering what should I worry about next? Should it be booking a Photographer? When should I book the limos, the officiant for the ceremony, the flowers, etc., etc., etc.???? Aaaaaaaaah! Too much to do so far in advance! Any suggestions would be quite wonderful! Thanks!

Did you pick the location for the ceremony and reception yet? If not, that would be a very good thing to work on. Officiant decision comes at about the same time - if your ceremony is at a church or temple you are likely to use their person. If its at the reception place your choices change... Flowers you should definately wait on - until after you have picked your dress and the bridesmaids dresses. Closer to 6 months before the wedding! I have a long time to plan too! Enjoy all the extra time to ponder your options, we shouldn't need to stress about anything!

It's best to confirm the reception site and the officiant / church at the same time if you are planning on a specific church and officiant. You don't want to find out after signing on a reception site that the officiant is already booked. If you are doing the ceremony at the reception site, and don't have a specific officiant in mind, you have a bit more leeway. I'd still get those details wrapped up, since they are critical. After the DJ, the Photographer is probably the most likely to book up fast - so start that research and plan to book over the next few months. You could start looking at dresses for you and the bridal party, but you have plenty of time before you have to decide. Limos and Invites can wait a bit too, because you have a lot of choices there. If you want a specific Limo service or vintage cars, plan to book sooner than later. Florists too - you can start talking to people and confirm a date but pick specific flowers as it gets closer - maybe look at them in August to see the same kind of flowers that are available.

I think the most important things to do first are ceremony site, reception site, music and photographer. After that you can take a well-deserved break before worrying about your dress, etc. etc. Don't worry - it will all come together!

don`t stress now, you have plenty of time to do that when it gets closer to the wedding date. we are getting married in june 2002 and we have only booked the reception hall as of now. i called the church and they haven`t gotten back to me yet. i also called the photographer that we want and we are going to meet w/ him in the next couple of weeks. we know who we are using for limos (haven`t contacted them yet) and we will start thinking about bands over the summer. florists will be in the late summer or fall. i am so not stressed or worried because there is ample time to plan. start looking for dresses if you want, but i definelty agree that you should have the reception site and church booked soon. my friend planned her wedding in 6 months, so relax and enjoy!

Help! What`s the next step?
Well, thanks for all the help. I do have my reception site booked. It's at the Port Jefferson Country Club. We will be getting married there also. Do I need to book the priest/officiant soon? I still have no idea about a photographer. I have about 4 names that were highly recommended from this site, but I haven't even seen their work yet. I live in NC and haven't been up to NY yet. We're hoping to get up there around Memorial Day.

I would book the officiant soon especially since you all ready have the reception hall booked. You will want to make sure that the officiant is free that day.

Planning from out of town
Hi Melissa, We're in the final stages of our planning (4-28-01 is the big day) and I've been planning from Boston. Since you'll be limited in your opportunities to visit, I'd definately start making phone contact with whomever you'd like to meet with next time you're in town, so you can set up dates. A holiday weekend, and weekends in general during the summer, will be a hard time for many vendors to meet with you because they may already be doing a wedding - so plan ahead and try to arrange to be in NY during some weekdays too. Good luck!

Help! What`s the next step?
I am getting married on June 1, 2002. I have booked my reception hall, church and band. I have been to a few showcases and if you are interested in a band, I would suggest doing some research now. The band I originally wanted was already booked for my date. Now I am in the process of looking at photographer. Hope this helps. Good luck planning.Welcome New Vendors
