Help with Bedding--I am so lost!

I want to register for bedding but I have no idea what these terms mean.

Can anyone explain the difference between these and when I use them? What ever happened to just a plain comforter??

Duvet

Coverlet

Quilt

Thanks!!!!

a duvet is a cover/slip for a down comforter, it usually buttons at the bottom. If you have a down comforter it is important to use duvets to maintain the cleanliness of the down comforter.

A coverlet is usually a quilt or designer bed cover. It is not intended to be used as a blanket, only for decorating purposes.

A quilt can be used as a decoration as well as a blanket. Quilts usualkly have to be dry cleaned and it can be very very costly.

i was wondering the same thing Kathryn. I was registering online the other day for Macy's. I want to get my luggage, china, bedding and towels there.

But I see no Comforters on the bedding lists. All I see are duvets, coverlets and quilts. But I hate down comforters and I guess with a down comforter you have a duvet over it?! From what I get on this thread haha

But I just want a plain 'ol comforter! I guess I should register for a nice one at macy's and then buy a normal comforter from Kohl's or something haha

Comfortters are great for warmer months, but cvotton and acrylic filler aren't very warm. Also, a lot of comforters these days are basically'bed covers' and for decoration only. Even washing them once can make them come apart and fade.
I like to order faux down comforters from overstock.com because they are durable and inexpensive!

a duvet is a sham for a down comforter or any comforter. It's like a pillowcase for your blanket essientially.

I love down, in all seasons so I have a lot of duvets.

a euro pillow is the big square shaped pillow.

I had a hard time finding a comforter set. Everything was duvets/quilts and I dont like either. I finally found a bed-in-a-bag at BBB!! They had alot more than the department stores.
