Help with CHANNEL SETTING RING....

Help with CHANNEL SETTING RING....

So my grandmother gave me her MIL wedding band. So that's my greatgrandmothers wedding band. Both my greatgrandmother and my grandmother were married in it.

It's missing 3 diamonds... which isn't a big deal... that I can have replaced. It's set in Platinum. ONLY problem is IT'S TINY TINY TINY!!! And I have smaller fingers to begin with. I can actually get it on my finger and probably wear it all day and be fine... but it is tight and it's snug to take off. It looks a little snug... and literally if I get a mosquito bite on my finger this ring is never coming off!!!

Can they resize a channel setting ring? (That's the one with the diamonds set inside the band going all around the band).

I still want to get a ring that matches my e ring. But I think it would be awesome to possibly get married in this ring. FH wouldn't be able to get it on me the way it is now... it could get comical up there if he tries.

Hmmmmmm good question, would you be open to have it reset with a gap (on the bottom of course)? That might be feasible...but I'm not a jeweler, I would just take it to one and see what they say...?

if it's not an eternity band you can probably have it sized, but you should def. take it to a good jeweler to get a professional opinion.

if it won't fit and can't be sized, maybe you can wear it on a chain as a necklace or in some other way for the ceremony so that you can still technically be married in it (and get a new band too )

Why not just use it for the ceremony and then switch to your own wedding band afterwards? Then it doesn't have to slide all the way onto your finger. It can just go on as far as it can for the ceremony and then pop your real band on afterwards.

Well, here is something not everyone knows........ You can have an eternity band streched. Yeap! you can go up 2 sizes, but you can strech it to almost one size up. So ask your jeweler and is they say no, go somewhere else, because this can be done.

Re: Help with CHANNEL SETTING RING....

I'm happy to hear that it can be resized!! It's REALLY old!! Like from the early 1900's and i don't want to do much to it. It def needs a MAJOR cleaning. I think there's 60 years worth of dirt in it!!! My grandmother doesn't really take her good jewelry to get cleaned because she thinks the jeweler will steal the stones. She even questioned me getting mine cleaned. I just like diamonds to sparkle like they should!!

I'm going to the jeweler today to do my wedding band... and I brought that ring with me... so we will see what he says.

I'm kinda sad though... they have to take the diamond out of my ering and give that to me. Then they are taking my setting and making a mold of that to make the band from. So I don't know how long I'm going to be without my ering for but I think it's going to be a little while at least. Did anyone else have to do this??

Re: Help with CHANNEL SETTING RING....

Definitely check it out. My e-ring is a channel setting and it started to get a little big. I asked my jeweler about it and he said he wasn't thrilled with ever having to resize the ring.... Because when they make channel settings, they build the gold or platinum AROUND the stones...and resizing could make all stones loose. I would be extra careful especially if it's a very old ring. I had to change something that's old and been that way for soo long (I'm very traditional) but I would want to wear it too! Good luck.

Thank you for this. After I read it I checked out the ring... and that certainly looks to be true... it does look like the platinum was built around the stones.

Please keep your fingers crossed for me that they can resize this ring!! Even just a little bit!!
