Help with honeymoon

Help with honeymoon

FH and I are thinking of going to the Caribbean or the Florida Keys for our honeymoon

we wanted:
1) someplace warm (since we plan to go either right after or a couple of weeks after our November wedding), and
2) someplace close so that we don't waste too much of our vacation time traveling to and from the destination
3) a trip that won't necessarily break the bank

now i'm second-guessing myself...should we be going somewhere more glamorous?

the reason i'm second-guessing our choice is because a friend of ours is getting married a month before us and she's planning to go to Dubai and the Seychelles. Of course, she and FH have more money to spend on the honeymoon, but it put this idea in my mind that maybe our honeymoon is just too ordinary...am i going nuts for nothing or should we be thinking more glam?

Re: Help with honeymoon

I'm getting married shortly after you. We're not taking our HM until January 2nd. We're taking a Princess cruise out of Puerto Rico on the 4th. So we'll be staying in PR for 2 days. The cruise is 7 days and goes to St. Thomas, St. Lucia, Barbados, Antigua and Tortola. After the cruise we are flying to Barbados for 4 days. All that is coming with air is coming to less that 5000.

you should do whatever you want to do!!! getting to that point is such a relief and all you want to do is relax....if relaxing to you is a beach in the keys - DO IT!!!!!

Go wherever you are most comfortable, emotionally and financially! What matters most is that the two of you can enjoy your 'newlywedded-ness' regardless if its an exotic place or not!

you're right, that was what we were originally thinking...maybe i'm just being competitive with my friend...it's a good thing we don't talk about wedding planning too often...

Re: Help with honeymoon

the ONLY thing i would keep in mind is hurricaine season. are you going to be traveling there right after your wedding? it officially ends November 11 - so the chances of you encountering one are low - but there could be recovery happening from a previous one. especially because sept and oct are the worst months. i know this may seem like a bit of a stretch. but i have so many friends and colleagues in FL so i guess i'm just a bit more keyed into it! knock on wood we wont have any this year!!

Re: Help with honeymoon

dear bride... this is your voice of reason speaking.... i know it's hard NOT to make comparisons to so and so's wedding since it's so close to your date. BUT... say it with me... BUT!!!! (Ha... i made you say butt!)... anyway... the honeymoon with your HUSBAND.. will be romantic and relaxing and beautiful no matter where you spend it.. because the two of you will finally be together, alone... with no wedding planning stress, with no parents, no inlaws, no crazy MOH's (wait... thats me.. scratch that)... you get the idea.

You know she's over the top anyway. A beach is a beach where ever you go, unless it's Jones, then it's just gross... a sunset will still look just as romantic when sitting with your husband. Thats what works for them... do what works for you. So you're not spending as much as them... it doesn't mean thtey will have a better time. Take the money saved and put it towards more trips to enjoy some alone time with hubby.

Re: Help with honeymoon

oh and since you mention the Keys... Rena went there and her pictures were amazing. We were going to go but i think we opted to go back to South Beach.. again. (love it there)....

I can get info from Rena for the keys if you want.

Re: Help with honeymoon

either one of those choices would be great! I agree about the key west sunsets. amazing. we stayed in key largo and just made a trip throughout the keys. great trip! great seafood!

the caribbean is also a nice choice. you can get 'glamorous' there and not break the bank as well. im not sure what your budget is, but you can try Atlantis in bahamas, turks and caicos, stjohn/st.martin, st. kitts, antigua (great all inclusives), bermuda (short flight).
