i'm pretty confused about inner envelopes.....i've read that you should exclude first names and only put 'Mr. and Mrs. Smith' or 'Mr. Smith' or whatever, but i've also read that it's ok to put first names for the friends and family you are really close to......for instance.....on my grandmother's inner envelope, can i just write 'grandma' or for my uncle, can i just write 'uncle steve?'
what is everybody else doing? so confused.....:)
TIA for your help!

I put first names only on the inners... it's supposed to be more informal.

that's what i planned too and then i read all this 'etiquette' that they shouldn't include first names, then the confusion started :)

it depends on how formal your invites are. But I have always seen First and Last names on the inner and Mr/Mrs First Last on the outer. I think if you are going less formal you can put Aunt/Uncle Soandso

Re: Help with Inner Envelopes
I just literally put the directions down. And this is what it says to do for addressing:
The inner envelope always carries the last names only with no address. The phrase 'and Family' should be avoided. if you wish to include younger children they should be mentioned by first name according to afe on the line following their parents. these names should appear only on the inner envelope

I say etiquette shmetiquette! Do whatever you want. If you want to use first names only for close friends and family, then go for it. Trust me, nobody is going to care but you!!
Three of my good friends have gotten married in the past year and I can't remember for the life of me what my envelopes said!

that's so funny and so true....i can't remember any of these details about other weddings i've been to, but when it comes to mine, i'm being a freak about it! you are right, nobody will notice or care most likely so i may as well do what i want! thanks!!

I agree I think as brides we want it all to be just right. Half the things we stress over other people wouldn't even notice. for all of us

I totally agree! Im doing this today too, and I had the same question. After stressing which font to use, I then decided people wont really notice any of the envelopes! I tried to remember what my friends sent me in the past and couldnt remember, so I figured no one will remember mine!

I wish I had a clue- I didn't bother doing inner envelopes just the outer ones.

Re: Help with Inner Envelopes
It's fine to put familiar names and titles on the inner envelopes for close relatives and good friends if you like. For those you don't know as well, use the Mr., Mrs., etc., or appropriate professional title.

i know! i was freaking out about the return addresses printing in a lighter color than the front addresses and then i realized people will actually tear the envelope right where the return address is anyway so who cares! i never ever ever thought i would OBSESS about these crazy things, but i really have become crazy!
