Help with picking paint...

Help with picking paint...

Can anyone tell me if the color generally comes out darker than it appears on the color sample cards? I really want to paint the walls a muted sage/olivy green color - I basically have a specific green in mind. But I am afraid of getting a pastel room or worse - a medicinal green color once the paint is on the walls.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How do you know??!??!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Light Khaki by Benjmamin Moore.

A beautiful green & so true to its color chart!

If you go to Benjamin Moore you can paint a room & see the color, it's fun.

Had to add, I know what you mean, that happened to my kitchen

But I love the color for my bedroom. Our friends just painted their bedroom with it, so I went & bought it, now to paint!

If anything, I think light shades tend to show up even lighter on the wall.

The best way is to test it out using a quart of paint. Paint a big bit on your wall and let it dry. Wait a few days and see how it like it.

My family room is a great sage green. I love it. (I hear that often light greens look more pastels or mint green on walls - but I love our color - not pastel at all. ) The previous owner painted it this color and we are hoping ot keep it. We are in the process of buying furniture for that room and hopefully what we find will match it. I have the name of the color at home - if you like it let me know and I can look it up for you tonight. All I know off hand is that they bought it at Janovic Paints.

Here are some pictures from when the previous owner still lived there:

This picture makes it look light than what it is - it is more sage-y

Niecey-your walls look great.

I think I am going to try the quart of paint. That Benjamin Moore site was good Jenn, I found a few colors. Now I'd have to see them for real. This is for the living room so I'd hate to just say the heck with it and go white, I really do want color. Our couch is off white and the rug is light too - similar. Our furniture is light wood and DH has a navy blue leather recliner. So our accent color is dark blue.

Re: Help with picking paint...

Do you have a lot of natural light in the room? Obviously the more light, the lighter the paint color/room will appear.

I highly recommend Benjamin Moore paints! They're pretty true to color (assuming the guy mixing it doesn't screw it up! )

Something to take into consideration...a tinted primer. Whether you're doing a light color or dark, they make all the difference.

This is out current 'sage' room:

Jenny & Niecey very nice.

I find Benjamin Moore paints to be the best also, we used it on our LR not long ago. Their colors are very true to life.

Oooh...Jenn...I just looked up Light Khaki! I like! I like!

What room ya' painting next? And what color?

We're thinking about Jackson Tan (HC-46) for the master bedroom. Either that or a dark blue-green like Narragansett Green (HC-157).

Re: Help with picking paint...

I lobr BM Paint. We used it in the LR, DR and Hall. The living room is Fresh Air -211, The DR is Pine Barren - 437, the hall is a combination and the trim is simply white.

Definately do a test. The light, condition of the walls, adjoining rooms make a difference.

Now if I could just get to those window treatments!

Re: Help with picking paint...

I am looking into maybe doing a light green for my living room too. I am also afraid of what the color will look like. The last time we had our house painted the colors did come out lighter than the swatches. I am looking for a light green...

Re: Help with picking paint...

Wow...green is very popular with the LI ladies. Good taste is just one of our common traits

We met with the painter tonight and he said absolutely get BM paint so I am off tomorrow to the paint store. I was in Sears this afternoon and for the heck of it and $6.00 each, I got 2 quarts of their Easy Living paint in 2 different greens. I painted a paper plate with each and I love the one color. I was going to paint on the walls tonight but LIPA has to reconnect the electrical service so it was pretty dark. If I could get a BM color the same as this one, I think I'd be happy.

ETA: I just checked out the BM paint site - I'm digging that Rosemary Sprig.....

Re: Help with picking paint...

Elizabeth definately test some on the walls.

Lighting, furniture and alot more will change the look of the color. Test it with the lighting you will be using in that room, also view it against daylight.

Let us know how it turns out

Re: Help with picking paint...

For those that used the sage green in their living rooms - what color couches did you get?

Since this is my family room - and the room we will use the most - I don't want to go too light and I saw this set I loved but the not sure what color to get? What would match? I am not big into florals or crazy patterns - more solids or light patterns. The room has a lot of light because it has 2 skylights and sliding glass doors to the backyard.

Re: Help with picking paint...

Does anyone that did the sage colors we are talking about put rug down, if so what colors did you choose? Just curious.

Re: Help with picking paint...

I don't know if this will help, but I used sage carpet and for the walls, I chose a warm golden color from Sherwin Williams called Blonde:

I'd like to use sage paint in my LR/DR, but I would use a wood floor with it, not carpet.
