Help with the curb appeal of my house

Original post by sophie78

I feel like the house looks a little blah on the outside. Any ideas on how to make it look nicer?

I say definately FLOWERS. Plus....remember we a re in the ending stages of awful winter. It makes everything look yucky. Hair, skin, clothes, and houses. Once spring comes eveything will be brighter and greener.

How about painting the door? Red maybe? I love bright red doors? And what about hanging a flag?

I would get a different front door, maybe with glass in it and a full length glass screen/storm door. I like the idea of the black iron flower boxes under the upstairs windows.

And I agree about removing the overgrown shrubs in front of the bay window and doing some other plantings.

Good luck!

to echo what the others have already mentioned;

- paint shutters (black or forrest green)
- paint door
- window boxes
- rip out shrubs in front of bay window replace w/ colorful flower beds
- flank front walk w/ flowers
- decorative pots on sides of front door
- decorative lighting on sides of door

good luck and keep us updated

Re: Help with the curb appeal of my house

Hi again just wanted to let you know that LOwes and Home Depot have bulbs for planting in th spring, all kinds of flowers...Dalias, Iris, very pretty. I bought a ton this wk end, you plant them after the last frost of the season and the bloom mid/late summer and some back each year.

On another note, my tulips, dafodils and byacinths are all growing already!! (bulbs I planted last fall that grow in early spring/summer).

Thanks again for the ideas. I have since bought a mailbox and attached it to the house. I also bought a much bigger doormat. I have also bought a huge pedestal planter and filled it with flowers. I put it by the door. The painter said they can't paint the outside of the house until it gets warmer. I think I may remove the storm door. I have been looking all over for a wreath, but cannot find one that I really like.
