Help with wedding invites addressing - &guest???

I have a few questions...this addressing thing gets confusing!!

1) Single guests --- if they don't have a boyfriend/girlfriend, or maybe someone that you don't even know of, do you always address it 'Mr. name X & guest' ? just in case they want to bring a date? Or just the name?

2) How about my aunt's ex-husband? She's my blood relative, he's not, but we are still close...do I add him & guest, even though I know he won't take anyone??

3) How about a woman who's husband is deceased? Is she still a Mrs. or Ms.??

Please give opinions! Thanks!

If you are inviting single friends with dates - I would put down the guest's name if you know it (like if it is someone's longterm boyfriend/girlfriend) - otherwise, just put & guest.

If you are still close enough with your aunt's ex-husband that you are inviting him, put him down with a guest - even if he doesn't bring one - he's a grown man, let him make that choice.

I would prob ask your Mom or someone what is appropriate for the woman who is a widow and is she going by Ms. or Mrs?

My calligrapher has a bunch of info on her site about addressing etiquette that should help you out: Etiquette

If you have the finances to be able to invite all of your single guests with dates, then more power to you. Though many wedding ettiquette pages say that you only need to invite single guests with dates if they

1) have been dating for over a year
2) are engaged to be married
3) are living together

To address your specific questions:

#1- If you are using double envelopes, you can put the 'and guest' part on the inside envelope. If not, then you can put it on the outside.

#2- I think you are safe to invite him alone. If you know he isnt dating anyone, you may wish to spare your aunts feelings should he decide to bring a date.

#3- The woman is a Mrs. unless she indicates that she would like to be addressed otherwise.

I'm doing the same for all except that last thing. I'm putting Mrs. even though she is technically single now.

I take that part of my previous post back. You are right on that one. Never thought of it that way.

Hey! Great list from the calligrapher! I never thought that & was soo bad! And thanks for the other tips about guests. I really don't want to invite perfect strangers to my wedding. I think I would like to keep the date list down - that might seem rude, but I'm already at 350, and I don't want to be at 400 b/c of dates that are casual. Thanks girls for the great advice!
