Help...How do I begin to do the seating at tables?
What is the easiest way to start this? Do I use excel or do I get a piece of oak tag....Help!

I obviously haven't started yet but I plan on using oak tag and the strip post-its.
1-bc I LOVE post-its 2-I need to see it all laid out with the guests names and not just their #'s

If you go to www.marthastewart.com and go to her weddings page, you can find a seating chart . I'm sure all of the sites have it...maybe even this one, but it's cool b/c you can create your own room ( ex: 40 x 60 feet) and there are all different icons you can use. You have to go there and check it out. It is time consuming, though...i think i spend like 2 hours setting up the room.
If you are asking where do you start w/ seating people...like who goes where...that's a tough one that only you and your family will be able to answer...but obviously those that are close to you will sit closer to you.

I have everyone's name in excel already. Then I created a column with one word describing how I know them (i.e., school, work...) and am going to sort based on how I know them. So all my work people sit together, all school people sit together... Obviously there will be random people who won't know anyone and I will seat them with other people their age or with similar interests.

honeslty i took the response cards grouped them as friends, family (which side), then broke it down from there. Found it easier to spread it out on the floor. Then I had a sheet I wrote it all down then put it in excel for when I did a data merge for printing my seating cards.

My mom and DH's mom did their families respectively--we had our list split up by Bride's Family, Groom's Family, or Nick & Nicole (which was our friends). Both moms made little slips of paper and played around with them to make tables--they just told me these are the groups of people we want together. I did our friends in excel b/c it was only 3 tables worth so I just manipulated them. Then I placed people at tables in the room based on who they were--our parents at table 1 and table 2, my fam on the odd side, DH's and our friends on the even side (the even side was bigger at our RH), and closer ppl closer to us, kids/younger people closer to the band & dance floor (further from us).
Then I put everyone's table number into our original excel spreadsheet guestlist so we would have a comprehensive list, and sorted it by table number
