I purchased my wedding gown at the beginning of January from David's Bridal and it's everything I hoped for and more!!! And it came in early and is ready to be picked up...
So what's the problem right?
Here's my dilemma after I bought my gown my mom was talking to some of her work friends about it and they made us totally paranoid about storing the dress at our house; and David's Bridal does not store dresses for you. The biggest concern her work friends put into our minds was that they said that you can't cook certain foods because the smells can seep into the dress and make it stink!? We bought a garment bag to protect the gown but I am still nervous...we paid all this money and i rly don't want to ruin my dream dress.
Have you ever heard of this? How are you storing your dresses?
Freaking out...any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You have alot of time until the wedding, so I would look into places that store the gowns.. I heard it can get discolored if it sits around for that long.
If you have a cedar closet, you can probably put it in there in the garment bag and nothing should happen to it

I think David's has a storing service. I was thinking about getting a dress from David's but ending up not but I remember them saying that for $100 you send the dress in and they package it for you and send it to your house and it's all preserved for you.

I bought my dress from vows in August. It is hanging in my old closet in my moms house. They put it in two garment bags and told me to leave the zippers open about 3 inches. It's been in there for 6 months and it's just fine. Just store it in a place where it won't get damp or be in sunlight.

They don't store it for you but it's a service that they provide. You send it your dress and they send it back all sealed up.

I think your dress will be fine. Unless you're storing it in the kitchen I don't really see how it will get stinky. As long as you have the space for it to hang and keep it in the garment bag I can't imagine it would be a big issue, though a dry spot would definitely be best.

I used to work at DB, they don't store it simply because they don't have the space and trust me you wouldn't want your dress in that back room too long! It's much safer with you! The service people are talking about on here is dress preservation for AFTER the wedding. Put your dress in a garment bag or two and keep it in a closet and it will be fine, leave a little opening for fresh air. It won't get discolored in that amount of time as long as its in a dry, dark place. I also wouldn't worry about smell unless you happen to have it in a house of smokers or right next to the kitchen. After alterations, your dress will be steamed and pressed and that will freshen it right up.

I know that this service is for after the wedding but I was told that it would be a good idea for before the wedding too since my wedding was so far away.

I was there this sat with the same concern since I am not getting married till Nov 2015 and they told me that so long as it is in the bag and no smoking or fire place etc the dress will be fine to put it in the back of the closet.

I stored mine for 8 months with no problems. It went back to Davids about a month before for alterations they will store it then for you and steam it. It should be fine.

Thank you so much everyone!! I am a little calmer now lol.
Luckily my room is not by the kitchen and we only have one smoker in the house but he has to smoke outside...
I will get a 2nd garment bag to be extra safe and I think I will clear out my closet and i'll keep it hidden in there!!
