Re: Help...pre-k
Hi, IMO I would do something with healthy foods. Maybe show them unhealthy foods and healthy foods side by side and have samples of the healthy ones for them to taste.this way they can see how delicious certain fruits, vegies and cereals are. Just make sure no one is allergic.
If you want to do something with exercise, movement for them instead of machines. A good game of simple simon is great.
Hope this helps. Good luck

jump rope, a game of tag, any kind of movement activities would be great. so many kids enjoy sitting in front of the tv all day. you can introduce the 'food pyramid' by having them make their own pyramid... glueing cheerios for whole grains, pictures of fruit, etc,.

remember children that age need the lesson to be exptremely active and hands-on. it will be hard for them to sit still and listen to a lecture for too long.
I like the taste test of healthy foods ideas... also, perhaps they could take a class vote on their favorite... also kids this age love to dance and sing so perhaps you can throw in a song (Like Apples and Bananas or something)

I would start the lesson off with a fiction read aloud about healthy foods/being healthy and then maybe brainstorm a list together while they are on the carpet of ways they stay healthy... In the first grade health unit it also talks about safety, like staying on the sidewalk, brushing teeth, etc. You can blow up some pictures of healthy vs. unhealthy foods and activities and sort them together as a class.... as a final assessment they can fill in the sentence, I stay healthy by....and the draw a picture. the only reason I would not do exercise is because some of them will get out of hand and go overboard. is this for an observation or demo?
