And I'm not saying that any of the ones on this site do this, but:

Treat your secretaries as if they really are humans and deserve to occupy the same air/office space/elevators/corridors as you do.

AMEN! Fortunately, I'm an attorney that happens to have worked as support staff before I went to lawschool. So I actually had to take dictation at some point before I started doing it! I am appalled at the way some people treat their secretaries. I also had to work in a gov't job for 3 years where I didn't have one and had to do all my correspondence, filing, etc. myself so now I'm just grateful to have one. On the other hand, I have discovered there are some pretty awful secretaries out there too! But, it bugs the **** out of me that lawyers don't know how to send a fax or use a copy machine! Give me a break guys!

um, i agree with you. im a legal secretary and the attorneys i deal with never consider us an equal. its like they are better than us. if it were for us doing their typing, mailing, etc. they would die. one attorney i work for doesnt even really know how to work the computer. only e-mail.
