can you ovulte and then stop ovuating? Or what can make someone stop ovulationg? A girl I work with who is TTC doesn't think she ovulates but said she did at one time (I don't know how she knows that. Maybe she was pregnant at one time and miscarried or aborted?)
Is it possible to stop ovulating?

Re: Here is a weird Ovulation question
I can't answer the question directly for sure, but I have heard that if you abort your first child, your chance of a healthy pregnancy are reduced. This is what I heard from my mom, so to some degree you would need to check with your doctor (b/c it may be an 'old wife's tale')

Re: Here is a weird Ovulation question
I don't know if she actually did this I am speculating as to how she knows she used to ovulate and since she has only been married 2 months or so....I probably shouldn't speculate.

Re: Here is a weird Ovulation question
Jenn, I am not sure if I will be anwering your question medically, but I will based on my own experience. I would assume I ovulated normally from the time I was 12 and first got my period, as I was always pretty regular, with a heavy flow, if anything. At the age of 24, I went on the pill land stayed on it for about 6.5 years and then I got married and decided to come off it and let mother nature take its course.
I will stress thast I don't believe the pill had anything to do with it, but ever since I came off, I had maybe 2 AF's before stopping all together. Many visits to the ob/gyn and I found out I wasn't getting AF because I wasn't ovulating. A year later, 2 rounds of Provera (which induces AF and jump starts your system) and I eventually ovulated because I am now PG. I may never know why I didn't ovulate for those 10 months, but apparently my body went back to normal.

Re: Here is a weird Ovulation question
Its definitely possible to stop ovulating. Most people who do have problems with their hormone levels. Usually your periods will change or stop so most women go to the doctor at that point and find out that they don't ovulate. You wouldn't have to be pregnant before. Alina, that is a story from the old wives club. Most women miscarry the first pregancy, a lot of women just don't know it because they didn't have a chance to take a test. Its totally normal and most have perfect pregnancies afterwards.

Re: Here is a weird Ovulation question
It is absolutely possible to stop ovulating, even after many years of regular (like clockwork) ovulation. From the age of 12 until about 24, I ovulated like clockwork. Sometime around 24, I began to fluctuate by a few days, but still had a normal cycle each month. I got PG with Paul very fast - within two months, and had a healthy pregnancy. However, after Paul was born, my cycle changed. I stopped ovulating due to an imbalance in my hormone levels, which stopped me from ovulating. I was diagnosed with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) in August, and have been taking a medication to help balance my hormones and induce ovulation. It is definitely working b/c the doctor confirmed my ovulation last month, and I know that I just ovulated today

Re: Here is a weird Ovulation question
Claud is right. I also have PCOS and do not ovulate on my own without medication. I had normal cycles through my whole life until about 10 years ago. She should get tested for PCOS.
