Has anyone other than you very very close family members, like your parents or very close friends, asked you how much you were paying per plate?
A co-worker of mine asked me today (and it's not the first time he asked either - he actually said today 'how much are you paying a plate again? I think you told me but I forgot) and it just put me in this really awkward position because I don't want to tell him but I don't want to be rude so I told him I didn't remember we booked so long ago.
Is it just me or does that seem really rude to anyone else?
Mind you this co-worker is not someone who will be invited to the wedding just because I don't know him that well and don't speak with him that often.

Re: Here's an odd question. . .
the other day, my Mom's hair dresser asked her what I'm paying per plate! For no reason - just to know!
Mom 'couldn't remember'

Yes, some people I work with asked me how much it was per plate when I first started my planning. It caught me totally off guard and I was kind of upset. I kind of talked around it.

yes, a lot of people..and my mom jokingly said we should all answer:
'Do you want to help pay your share?'
It is amazing at how many people think it's their business how much I am paying per head, OR who is paying for wedding. Ugh, only people that are paying for it know, so if you want to be in that loop, by all means!!

NO, no one ever asked me that except for friends who were also planning a wedding. It is very RUDE to ask that!

I was asked by lots of people. Friends, family and co-workers. I never told them. I felt that it's an odd place to put a bride in. Why do you want to know what it is costing me? So your gift covers my plate or are you just really interested in the going rates of wedding facilities?

I get asked this question all the time and I hate it! I always answer 'I'll tell you if you pay for my hall.' They always respond 'no way, I don't need to know.' I think people ask this question so they can figure out how much to give you as a gift. Either that or they want to be nosey.

I am from upstate and the question would never arise there, from what I know. We were never, personally asked down here, But I hear it's customary for guests to 'cover their plate' down here. Maybe they need to know. Although, it's strange that he's not invited.

A few people have asked me. My usual reply is 'Why? Do you want to buy a few plates?'. I usually receive a blank stare in response.

It's rude, and nobody's business including family, unless they are contributing to the cost.

Yes, inappro! My best friend asked me, but she can ask me anything, but when other people ask I say, 'Don't worry, enough.'

Re: Here's an odd question. . .
well there are three types of people that ask this question 1. close family and friends and i will give them a round figure 2. other women planning their weddings and i will give them details of how much per plate and what i am getting for it ( bc it was very helpful when people did that for me) 3.random people : when those people ask i will usually say something like oh we got a good deal bc its the winter. . . and if they insist i will say something like oh i think it was less than $100 or something vague like that
its very uncomfortable
and now i want to know who it was!
HTH!

yes, i had someone ask that i think my mom told them and they didnt even remember the right amount and started telling people a number that is $40 less per plate than it actually is! one other person asked and before he did he said i know it is none of my business, but i am just curious and please tell me it is none of my f-n business if you want but around how much is the wedding costing .. Fh said it's none of your f-n business, and he said that's fair. most people i give a vague answer.. i know people just like to be nosey... so i try to just ignor it..
