My mom was 100% Irish.
Dad is almost full Irish, but we still don't know the origin of our last name! (it is not irish)!
FH: Mom is 100% silician
Dad is part German part Irish!!
I always joke with FH that I wanted a nice Italian name one day and it is his mom who has it!!!
No conflicts, both our families are pretty Americanized!!!

Re: heritage

I was born in the US and am a total mutt - let's see if I can remember everything - I'm mostly German, then Irish, Czechoslovakian, Swedish, Norwegian, and Native American. Both of my parents and all of my grandparents were born here too. My FH, on the other hand is 100% Filipino, and his parents (and most of his relatives) were born in the Philippines. (He was born here.) We have not had any cultural problems with our families in the least. I'm looking forward to including some of the Filipino traditions in our wedding ceremony!

Re: heritage

I'm American born and raised.

My mom was Irish and Dutch. We have relatives we can trace back to the Dutch settlers in NY in the 1600's and I also have a relative who signed the Declaration of Independence (John Hart).

My father was 100% Irish. He was born there and was adopted by a family in the US when he was orphaned at the age of 7.

DH's parents where Irish, English and German.

We have no problems because my mom and DH's parents are deceased and who knows where my father is. I don't even know if he is still alive.

Re: heritage

Pure American!!! I am 23rd generation American..My father's family came over here in 1632 and settled several parts of Connecticut. There are many towns and museums in Connecticut dedicated to my ancestors using my maiden name.
My mother was Pennsylvania Dutch-she was 3rd generation 100% German background.
My dad's family came here from England but we're traced primarily to Scotland and Wales.

Re: heritage

I am born in US, so is he. We are both Italian, but I am also Englsih & Egyptian, and he is also Irish & German.

I am first generation on my mother's side & 2nd on my father's side (I think) He is thrid generation on both sides.

Conflicts? normal stuff. Italians are very very protective fo thier own family & town traditions & he is Barese & I am sicilian. That is the biggest conflict. Also, I lvoe my English heritage & he forgets he is Irish & german. I only found out recently that my fathers side is originally from Egypt, so I do not know to much about that part of my lineage yet.

We are mutts!

I was born in the USA. My heritage is German and Irish.
My FH is also American born but his heritage is Russian. He is Jewish by birth but does not practice.

I think that the only problems we are going to run into is when our parents meet is that his parents are hippies and mine are rather conservative. It might be a little like Darma and Greg.

Re: heritage

I was born in Camden, NJ ..
My Dad is Italian -- and my Mom is german/english

My inlaws are from Ireland -- My husband is 100% Irish -- His parents were born and raised there -- came over to the states in her 20's.

I will say the only conflict I have had -- is that I am protestant -- and being Irish Catholic-- they do not like protestants very much -- due to the conflicts in Ireland.. So when I first met her -- she did not understand my religion -- did not think I believed in God??? I was like - Hello-- there is really not much difference from your religion... Then when we got married protestant-- and got Aidan baptized that way -- oh boy -- did it hit the fan !!! But everything is fine now - and they are v ery understanding...
