Hero

Original post by DMAG

Just thought I'd give my little review of the movie 'Hero' with Jet Li.

We rented it last night and popped it in at the late hour (for us ole' married folk) of 9 o'clock.

Well, Felicia lasted exactly 3 minutes and 34 seconds into the movie before she fell asleep. Meanwhile, I soldiered on intent on watching this movie.

I have to say, even with subtitles, it was an excellent movie. The plot was great, the characters were great and the film was artistically beautiful. (Don't follow all of the Quentin Tarintino hype...he had nothing to do with this movie except marketing.)

The fight scenes seemed more like ballet then actual martial arts. The gracefulness of the scenes (which there are many of) seemed to play down that these people were actually trying to kill each other. The interplay between swordplay and calligraphy was quite interesting as well.

The story was excellent as well. You tend to feel for almost every character (even ones considered 'bad') all the way until the end of the movie.

My opinion? If you can't handle subtitles (or overdubs), don't rent it. (You get used to it after about 5 minutes) But, if you like a good story with a good amount of action, head over to Blockbuster and grab it!

DMAG's rating:

Two carburetors up!

Simply NOT possible to dislike Dodgeball. I also was extremely surprised how much I did like it. I really really hope Santa brings me a copy for Christmas (hint hint DMAG)

....how about that Jeep Wrangler I've been asking for?

Felicia, dear, don't you realize that an IPod is merely a stocking stuffer?

I fell asleep watching it last weekend too! Also saw Collateral same weekend. And Dodgeball the weekend before.

Beth we must plan our visits to Blockbuster at the same time

I'm not sure what to rent next, I'll FM you first to see what ya think

I know! Do you two have the Blockbuster monthly pass? Last night we got Napoleon Dynamite and Manchurian Candidate (still have to watch those two). White Chicks was actually much more funny than I thought it would be! And of course Envy was great if you haven't seen that already.

Thanks for the review--DH was curious, and it sounds like I wouldn'' be too bored.
I liked that movie with the flying people, so I've got no problem with subtitles, just a little with flying people.

We should get the Blockbuster monthly thing for as often as we go, but I had gotten a bunch of discount passes so we've been using them of late

Envy - that was the one with Jack Black and Ben Stiller? Funny!

I thought Manchurian Candidate was excellent, we saw it in the movies. What is Napoleon Dynamite?

Re: Hero

'Napoleon spends his days drawing mythical beasts, duking it out with his brother, Kip, and avoiding his scheming Uncle Rico. When two new friends enter Napoleon's life - shy Deb and mustachioed Pedro - the trio launches a campaign to elect Pedro for class president and make the student body’s wildest dreams come true. But if Pedro is to beat stuck-up Summer, Napoleon will have to unleash his secret weapon...'

Napoleon Dynamite is a new kind of hero, complete with a tight red 'fro, sweet moon boots, and skills that can’t be topped.
