Just thought I'd give my little review of the movie 'Hero' with Jet Li.
We rented it last night and popped it in at the late hour (for us ole' married folk) of 9 o'clock.
Well, Felicia lasted exactly 3 minutes and 34 seconds into the movie before she fell asleep. Meanwhile, I soldiered on intent on watching this movie.
I have to say, even with subtitles, it was an excellent movie. The plot was great, the characters were great and the film was artistically beautiful. (Don't follow all of the Quentin Tarintino hype...he had nothing to do with this movie except marketing.)
The fight scenes seemed more like ballet then actual martial arts. The gracefulness of the scenes (which there are many of) seemed to play down that these people were actually trying to kill each other. The interplay between swordplay and calligraphy was quite interesting as well.
The story was excellent as well. You tend to feel for almost every character (even ones considered 'bad') all the way until the end of the movie.
My opinion? If you can't handle subtitles (or overdubs), don't rent it. (You get used to it after about 5 minutes) But, if you like a good story with a good amount of action, head over to Blockbuster and grab it!
DMAG's rating:
Two carburetors up!

Yawn.. I know, it wasn't my type of movie. I really wanted to see it. Then again, I was sooo exhausted and wasn't really paying attention.
But it certainly was no 'Dodgeball'

Dodgeball - best movie of 2004
Funny part about Hero is that I reaaallllly wanted to see it myself. Visually it looked amazing. But somehow I just couldn't get into it.
Maybe DH can visit London and go see House of Flying Daggers with you and Seb

I might have to go see that. I was quite impressed at how he made totally impossible moves (ie. flying through the air, etc) look....believable!

DMAG, I don't know much about you, but from what I've seen so far you have excellent taste in movies and women (Felicia rules).
Not so sure about your choice of baseball teams, but no one's perfect, eh?
Seriously, Hero was awesome. Really one of the most beautiful films I've ever seen, and I'm not a huge fan of the genre.
Dodgeball also r0xx0red.

It's so cool...you know how the women wear the kimonos with really long sleeves? Well, she's dancing in the middle of this circle with drum players all around her and she actually plays the drums by twisting her arms and hitting them with her sleeves...she also manages to hurl daggers out of them! So amazing!!!

Thanks!
I may need to do a weekly column for movie reviews. I almost started a movie website until I realized that the internet was composed of 50% movie websites, 49% porn and 1% miscellaneous.

Right back.
As for the baseball thing, fair enough. I think we all have accept some imperfections. My DH, Adam, for instance, doesn't like Shrek.
Yeah, I don't get that either.

Simply NOT possible to dislike Dodgeball. I also was extremely surprised how much I did like it. I really really hope Santa brings me a copy for Christmas (hint hint DMAG)
