Hey cat owners: would you ever get a leash for your cat?

Hey cat owners: would you ever get a leash for your cat?

Don't laugh

My cat TJ is like a puppy in a cat's body. He plays fetch, he races around, he scratches the door to go out....so my DH and I were thinking of getting him a leash - not to go walking with, but just to have him on so we could bring him in the yard (we have no fences and my DH always sits outside to smoke). I am thinking of getting one of those stretchy ones.

What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea! When I had a pet bunny I put a leash on the bunny! You should try one of those collars that go around the body rather than the neck!

I do have a leash for my lexi. She is an inside cat, but I like to take her on walks. She is a dog in a cats body

She is too funny and even leads the way when I am walking her sometimes.

LOL

Tried one once with Xena but she didn't like it. We tried that when we were introducing her to my Mom's animals. I wish she would go on a leash I would love to take her outside

I think its a great idea, actually, but our Mia would NEVER go for it. I would love to take her for visits to my family, etc..

She is a total princessey, indoor cat and likes being in her little domain. Poor thing freaks out everytime you try to take her outside of our apartment...

she has issues, what can I say?

Lucy is an indoor cat...I take her out in the yard on a leash. I used to use a harness but she wasn't comfortable in it so now she wears a breakaway collar. The leash is about 12' and she just roams the yard with it trailing behind her.

It helps me tremendously since she's a chocolate brown colored cat - I can't find her she takes shelter under a bush but I can always find her red & pink leash.

Give it a shot...better than having her run off! Take pix! I could use a good laugh!

A neighbor of mine walks her cat on a leash, and I'll admit, I laugh every time I see them walking along. Her cat walks naturally now, but in the beginning, she used a little laser pointer and pointed it a few feet ahead of them, so the cat walked because he was chasing the spot. I guess the first time she took him out he just stood in one spot, until she came up with the laser plan. Anyhow, my cat would probably love it, but he's too much of an escape artist for me to trust a leash. I'd be heartbroken if he ever got loose.

It's the collar (what the leash attaches to) that's breakaway. In case she tries to squeeze through a fence post or if her leash gets caught on something - she can free herself instead of choking. That's usually why people recommend harnesses for cats - but the breakaway collar is a nice alternative.

I agree - get a harness. We just learned that any pet under 20-ish lbs is susceptible to collapsed trachea with standard choke collars. I think it would be funny. Take pics!

My FI wanted me to when we got our two cats, but I refused. I think it is too humiliating for them.

My cats also think they're too dignified for a harnass. They've got big time attitude. My ferret really liked his though

I tried to get my cat to walk on a leash, but he wanted no part of it. I think if your cat is game then go for it.

My neighbor walks her 2 cats on a leash! I tried it with my cats and they hated it, but it is worth a try!

I tried the harness on Lucy, but she would only crouch down/lie down. It was kind of weird.
