Hey gals! So I'm catholic and my FH is Methodist. We both do not practice either.
Thing is, I grew up and did everything in the Catholic church. Up to my confirmation. I did want to have a Catholic ceremony. But now with my venue (de seversky mansion) the option of an outdoor wedding is here. Plus thats what my FH wanted. And the plus of not having to have people travel from the church to avenue and getting lost is a plus for me.
My brother, who also married a non catholic 10 years ago ended up getting married in the catholic church the day before the wedding and then getting married again in a hotel.
Should I just do two ceremonies? and if so...should they be on the same day...or different days?

Re: Hey Catholic Brides....
You need to choose personally what is right fo ryou and FH. However if you are going to do 2 ceremonies you need to be able to think of 2 things.
1-guests ( I would not want to sit through ceremonies- I would need to bring a flask with me)
2-Will you want to sit through 2 ceremonies..

If you're not practicing, does it really matter? Are you going to have one in a Methodist church too? Just something to think about. Are you doing it just to do it, or is it important to you?

hmm... thinking whats right for my FH and me is the thing to think about.
thanks gals!
If i did to the catholic ceremony though it would only be with his mom & grandparents, my parents and the MOH and BM. Very small.
It would be more for my mom and the sacrament.

Re: Hey Catholic Brides....
depending on your priest, most of them won't let you just do it, you have to go through pre-cana and focus questionnaire, even for interfaith marriages. (although, if the priest is in your family they may not require it). Also, I'm not sure that it's really the sacrament if you're both not Catholic (I don't know that though). It's a lot of work for something you may not be sure you want. :) Good luck! I'm sure you'll figure out what will work for you both!

Re: Hey Catholic Brides....
I think you should for sure think about what's best for you, and how you would want to raise your children.
My friends got married in an Episcopal church, and a year later had to remarry in a catholic church because they wanted to raise their daughter in the catholic church....so they had to go back and do alllll the classes and meetings (not catholic so I don't know the logistics). At the end of it all it was time consuming and cost them more money to do it that way.
Just food for thought

and i apologize if I sound 'mean' but that is a completely disrespect to God.

Re: Hey Catholic Brides....
I think you both should sit down and talk what you both would want. In interfaith marriages, this might not be a sacrament for you unless otherwise noted by the priest. My family is Catholic. My sister married her husband who is Lutheran, which the priest acknowledged that as long as they both agreed to raise their future children Catholic, the marriage would be considered a Sacrament.
Either, way having it under the eyes of whatever you believe will be honored by God inside or outside a church. God is everywhere. I wish you the best.

Your comments lately have been rude, mean and completey uncalled for. When and who decided to have you speak on what is sacred, and what is normal under God?

Why am I telling you this? Some people don't follow organized religion, but still feel connected to their faiths. If you want to feel more connected to your faith by having a ceremony in church, that's what you should do. Let's be honest: the ceremony is really the most important part of the day, not the party that follows.
Going to mass doesn't mean that one person is more faithful than another. I can think of many, many people who go to mass every Sunday but don't practice what is preached.
Discuss the ceremony with your FH. If you think you want to have two ceremonies, do it. Personally, I'm all for doing something that will make relatives happy, provided that it's something the person is comfortable doing.

Yes, this a public forum, but that doesn't mean you need to be disrespectful to people who have general questions, inquiries of services, and thoughts/ideas to ask and share. Be mindful of diversity and be mindful of the different interpertations of what people believe and practice. How you practice can be different than how I practice even though we call ourselves Catholic.

Re: Hey Catholic Brides....
Whatever reason you get married in a church is your reason, and your reason alone.
I'd say at least 75% of people I know that have gotten married in churches did it half because their parents wouldn't have it any other way.
Talk it over with your FH and do whatever makes you happy!!!

I think we have to remember that faith is very personal. As someone who works in a church, I think that my faith is huge but I don't think that it is more important or less important than someone else's. Faith is unique just like us. And it's not right to put someone down because of their individual faith expression. It turns from an opinion to just being rude. Remember the golden rule?
There may be more to her story then she is comfortable sharing on a public forum.
With pre cana and all the other things the Catholic churches have you do, I find it hard to believe that a priest would marry her if he didn't feel it was right.
Remember, at the end of the day, we're all here to help eachother and putting others down without thinking about what you write first, well just isn't what dis forum is about.

Totally agree! I am not Catholic however, I do believe that people can and should be allowed to practice their religion as they see fit. There is no need to disrespect people!

Re: Hey Catholic Brides....
My comment has nothing to do with religion or the religious aspect of this question, so to speak, but something to think about is, a huge benefit of having an off-site ceremony is you do not have to miss your cocktail hour or see eachother before the wedding to take your pics! The time in between a church ceremony and a reception is a built-in photo time. FH and I have to see each other beforehand because we don't want to miss a huge part of our party (or make our families and BP miss it either). I am not particularly traditional but I do feel kind of sad that me walking down the aisle will not be his first glimpse at me. Just another thing to work into your thought process. :)
