Re: Hi!

Okay here goes...

1) I do not know where to begin because my parents have us a strict budget of $20,000 for the whole thing. Is it possible? I have heard the halls out east are cheaper (we live in port jeff). Most of our guests will be coming from nassau. are halls out east too far away for guests from nassau?

2) I am a little perplexed about the bridal party. I have a sister, but we are not close. Although I had always imagened her being maid of honor. She is not very supportive and does not really participate in my life, so I was thinking of having my best friend be my maid of honor instead. However I am scared of the drama that will follow and I am not sure if that is even the 'right' thing to do. She just has proven to me that she would not be the best choice.

Re: Hi!

...also...how soon can you start looking for dresses? My friends have warned me that if i get mine too soon, I may change my mind. When does one usually start shopping? Silly questions I know

Re: Hi!

Living in Nassau myself, I don't think it would be an inconvenience to travel out east for a wedding. People drive from farther to go to weddings! Pick a place you love and that works with your budget and don't worry about guests - they'll come!

As far as your bridal party situation, maybe you can have two maids of honors. Your sister and your best friend, that way you avoid the drama.

Re: Hi!

she is the type of person that may not show up or 'forget' the rings or something.

I just purchased my dress today, and we're getting married the same day! But I would have waited until June or July if I wasn't in school and graduating in a month, and then taking the bar exam. I would not have been able to start looking until August with the way my life is right now. You can start looking now, or you can wait. Basically, whenever you want but personally I would leave like 12 months. Looking around for the one takes sometime too!

Re: Hi!

I also agree....my wedding is about 40min from where we live and some of our family members weren't too happy with the distance.
But we wanted it in a beautiful place and now his family is okay with the distance...
Have you looked at the meadowclub.
I think they start at $67 pp

Re: Hi!

First, congrats on your engagement and welcome!

I purchased my gown almost 2 yrs in advance...so I don't believe that anytime is too soon...as long as it's the right dress.

Oh and also take a look at East Wind! They are great!

Re: Hi!

My FMIL said the same thing about me getting a dress too early. I am going to wait till sept. I've changed my mind twice on a dress.

Re: Hi!

hi and welcome, this forum is amazing, i jsut joined last month and have gotton so much advice:
it is never too soon to pick out a wedding gown, i went a few weeks ago and tried on some for fun and def. found the dress for me, i never would have thought so soon.
also, i am having 2 maid of honors, my best friend and my sister so nobody gets their feelings hurt, you could always do that.
i do not think its a inconvenience to drive out east. i live in nassau and i am having my reception and ceremony in ronkonkoma which is out in suffolk.
i was never given a budget but i am trying to keep it at 20,000 as well and its not too difficult, i found on this site so many things that i can make for cheap.
if you want to check out my place, its very inexpensive and beautiful, the beach club estate.
good luck planning! i jsut started all of mine
