My FI and I are planning on getting married on October 30 or 31 2009!
We have been engaged since November 2007 and still have not picked a venue!!! Since January FI and I have looked at about 20 places all together in the TRI-state area.
I need help picking a venue at this point and need your plus/minus on the following two venues:
The first day we went to look at venues we went to the Bourne Mansion in Oakdale - FI and I LOVED it! Its the only place that I have walked into and pictured having my wedding there. My parents went to look at it the next day and HATED IT! They are not fans of the Bourne due to Lessings and didn't like the Mansion. Does anyone know someone that recently got married there??? I have heard mixed reviews on this venue...
The other place we like is the New York Botanical Gardens in the Bronx. We were going to move forward with this one as its very nice and the cuisine is famous but then my cousin heard a bad review recently...advice???
Basically has anyone attended events at either of these venues recently??? Thoughts...
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!
Places we have looked and had to cross off due to wedding size, money, etc. (If you want pricing let me know!) Brooklyn Botanical Gardens San Scouci Roslyn Claremont Hotel Louis the 16th Marros in Rye The Royalton of Roslyn NYIT De Seversky Center Village Club at Lake Success The Woodlands at Woodbury The Hempstead House The Riverside Church The Catherdral Harvard Club Prince George Ballroom Loft 11 Harmony Club The Waters Edge Central Park Boathouse Nissequoque Country Club The Vanderbuilt Mansion at Dowling

a quick glance at your list shows you didn't look at North Ritz Club in Syosset.... it's one wedding at a time and can accommodate a large # of guests (300ish) and the food is outstanding. might be worth a shot?
Edit: dont know much about either place you've been to, but you can search on here for past brides reviews

Re: Hi and Reception Venue - Need to decide!!
This is just my opinion but If you and FH really like Botantical Garden but changed your mind because of one bad review then you will not find a RH. Every RH has one bad review at one point or another. The best thing to do is mention whatever it is you heard about them. It could have been the littlest thing. I would inquire from then about what you heard.

Re: Hi and Reception Venue - Need to decide!!
I heard that they have a great cocktail hour but dinner food isn't that great. My Aunt went to a wedding there and she told me this. As for Botanical Gardens, I have no info on that place. Sorry I couldn't be of much better help. You will find your dream place!

Hi Jess!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats and Welcome!!!! YAY!!! Someone I know is on the boards!!!!!
I would totally do the Botanical Gardens. BUT I'm not sure if you want to have your ceremony there or not but they are pretty strict about the time you can have it.

Re: Hi and Reception Venue - Need to decide!!
I went to a wedding in 2005 at the Bronx Botanical Gardens and it was fabulous! But it was also in August, and therefore the ceremony was outside. If you are in late October, are you going to be stuck inside the whole time? Regardless, the food was fantastic and I though the ballroom where they had the reception was really nice.

Also, why can't you get married at a place where a family member or friend got married? I am sure your wedding will be different anyway (I mean, for starters, the bride and groom will will be 2 totally different people!).
