Hi everyone, I really need advice, quickly, if possible....
Ok, here's the situation....I sent my resume over the weekend for a position to be a music director this summer. The place I sent it to left me a message yesterday saying that they were very interested in meeting me and that the director of the summer program would be contacting me today. They left no number to contact them at, and the ad said no calls, so there was just a fax number. Now, I don't want to go anywhere because if they call and want to meet with me, the only time I can do it is today since I am going away tomorrow until Saturday. But, I have to go clean out my classroom by today, which is an hour and a half west of where I would have to go and meet about the job. So, do I go clean my classroom without waiting to see if they want to meet with me today? Or do I stay a little while here and see if they call? I am just afraid that they won't be able to wait until next week to meet with me and I will lose the chance to get this job. And it's a perfect job for the summer! ARGH! I'm so confused as to what I should do

Stay home until noon
...
Leave your cell phone number on your answering machine?
...
or look them up in the yellow pages and call them yourself?
That's the only things I can come up with.

They have my cell phone number as my only number. That's the only reason I am debating leaving. Thanks for the input!

Stay home until the afternoon
Change the message on your machine to say 'If this is ________, please leave a contact number so I can get back in touch with you'.
They should have left their number.
Good luck!!!

If they have your cell phone as your only number then why do you need to stay at home? Can you bring your cell phone with you to school??

Go where you have to go and check your messages every 15 minutes!

I wanted to stay home because the possible job is in Mattituck and my school is in Smithtown. Considering the traffic from the US Open, it would take me probably an hour and a half to two hours to get to the interview if they want me to come today. And since the job starts July 6, I am not sure if they will be willing to wait until Monday to meet with me, they probably will want to see me today.

I think this is a great idea.
I don't understand, if they have your cell number, why can't you leave?

If you have the number on call ID, I would just call them. Or even fax them a note ...

I would go now to clean out your class room. If they call while you are there, you can just tell them you are available in the afternoon. I doubt they expect you to run right over the second they call. good luck with the interview.

Ok, I think I am just going to leave because if they do call me, before I get there, I can always turn around. And if they are in a desperate spot to the point that the job is not filled by now, I'm sure they can wait until Monday. If not, then I guess it just won't work out. Whatever the case is, I MUST clean my classroom today so I don't have anything thrown away on me this summer. Thanks for the advice everyone!

Could you get the # for the school from the phone book and call to explain the situation? I wouldn't put your plans on hold, but would want to let them know you are interested.

I would go do what you have to do - I don't think that they would expect you to drop everything and run right over - especially with the traffic getting there - its brutal!!

Oh, then I'd definitely go. They'll just have to give you a 2 hour time difference if they call to meet today since you'll be so far.

Any way you could do call forwarding to your cell?

Id go. The longer you wait the more chance you'll have to be in that situtation. Just get it done. They'll understand (you'd hope) that you're a teacher who needs to clean out your classroom. It's not like you're getting your nails done.
If they call while you're out there, just explain the situtation and when you can be available. Everyone knows about the US Open. I think most will understand your travel needs.
Go, get what you need to get done as quickly as possible.

If you go on to www.google.com and put in the fax number you may be able to pull up the phone number Good Luck!
