Hi, girls!! Got a question, please see inside; Also new question at bottom
Re:Rehearsal Dinner, If a certain main entree is being served, and you were attending the dinner along with lactose intolerance to the food, would you:
1. Keep quiet about it, and just eat before you go 2. Say something to the Bride, who has nothing to do with the planning, hoping she might say something to the hostess 3. Say something to the hostess

My brother is lactose intolerant and always takes his pills before he eats out just in case.
If pills are not an option, I would probably ask the restaurant if they have any other options that do not include dairy.

I would talk to the hostess. I am lactose intolerant and lactaid DOES NOT work for me. I can tolerate small amounts of dairy (mostly cheeses) but certain things like cream based soups and sauces I must stay away from completely. It is a PITA but if I eat it it totally ruins my night

I would mention it to the hostess esp. if it's at a restaurant they will most likely be paying for a plate and it would be a shame for it not to get eaten. I also think that if it is at a restaurant they will definitely be able to accomodate you with something else to eat.

If it were me, I'd probably eat something before I go and just not say anything. I'd hate to put anyone out of their way to accommodate little old me with a special meal. My hubby doesn't let any food go to waste so I'd give him my meal if he were with me
ETA: I'd want to know if it were my event because I'd want everyone to be satisfied and eat so now I'm not sure lol

Hi, Bonnie!!! Yes, I'm strongly leaning toward not saying anything, but not totally convinced yet. If it were me, I definitely wouldn't say anything, but this re: to someone else I'm related to.

i either take Lactaid or speak to the person taking my order. i have learned that its very easy to get something different. however, if its a buffet, prior to taking Lactaid, i used to eat before i would go places.

Which makes me curious, are any of you having rehearsal dinners at locations other than restaurants?

To answer your first question, I'd call the place directly if it's possible, or definitely speak with the hostess and see if they wanted to me to call. FH is lactose intolerant (was on a strict Gluten-free diet for a while too, so we made lots of calls!) and I've just been telling everywhere we go as we're doing this process.
As to your second question... we're having ours at the hotel. Not exactly a restaurant, but catered by the hotel restaurant.

Mary, I would say something to the hostess and have a special dinner made up for that person. Most restaurants have no problem doing this and will gladly oblige. My Michael has PKU so I was always asking for a separate meal for him so don't be shy just speak up because I am sure it won't be a problem.
