hi girls need help or just need to vent

Hi girls I havent been on at all lately because I am going through a really rough time. I have been having panic attacks and anxiety so bad that I am afraid to drive or leave my house. I've been trying to fight this for a while now but I feel like I cant control my thoughts anymore I am consumed with all these thoughts about anxiety all day long. It is affecting my life I cant go to work or do things I normally used to do. I went to the dr and they gave me medication which I started yesterday but I just cant seem to shake this I know I need to give my meds time to kick in but I just hate feeling this way expecially 2 months before my wedding Are there any girls who have been through or are going through this right now that can share so insight with me? I would really like some input or helpful hints to get me through this horrible time.

please dont quote cause I will probably take this down

my brother went through the exact same thing a few months before his wedding, just be careful with whatever meds the dr. is giving you, most are bad for you, especially if they're anti-depressant type of pills. We were all there to support him through it and it seemed to help, then one day poof he was back to normal, it was the strangest thing.

We all thought it was wedding jitters and to this day we never understood why it happened, he even says he can't believe it happened to him. I think the best thing to do is maybe get away for a few days, maybe a spa would help or some kind of relaxation thing.

Good Luck and I will pray that you get through it

My Aunt was having serve anxiety a few months ago. She also went to the dr and began to take medication but she really didn't feel like that was working so well for. She ended up going to see a psychologist who really helped talk her through her fears and anxiety. Sometimes finding an outlet to talk about the things that are bothering you may help.

I wish I had something better to say but I am really you are going through this. I would try to talk to a professional to get my feelings out. Spend time on you trying to relax. I hope things get better soon. Your day will be amazing! And Im not just saying that because we are RH twins! Sending lots of your way!

krislee have you pinpointed any triggers to your anxiety? In combo with your meds you should talk to someone & maybe they can help find the source. best of luck and feel better soon

i have to be honest with you... i have extreme anxiety... my dr. put me on meds, and they totally messed me up. I was on them for about a week when i started feeling these zombie like feelings, and i felt disconnected from the whole world and i literally shut myself in my room for 3 days. (that was Lexapro)

Then they put me on a different medication... same results...different reactions. This time I was mega-hyper all the time and i burnt out really quickly. (This was Zoloft...more for depression than anxiety)

Then, with the last medication they put me on (and the last one i will EVER try) I became bi-polar. One minute I'd be fine, the next minute I'd want to put my cat in a choke hold. (this was effexor XR...for both anxiety AND depression)

My advice... try to do it without meds. I now go to the gym 5 days a week and it seems to help. Also, I learned breathing exercises for when I'm out and cant get to the gym. It's a slow process, but personally, anything is better than meds.

thank you girls I fel better just getting it out and knowing that other people have gone through this too. I cant pin point anything at all that might be causing this the only thing I can think of is I was in a car accident in december and started getting nervous while I was driving lately so IDK if that has anything to do with it For once everything is going perfect the way it should be then boom this happens. I def do know it will pass because I have been through this before but talking about it does help.

there is nothing for you to be ashamed or embarrassed of!

you need love and support from your fam & friends to get through this. You should really consider talking to someone in combination with your meds. Most anxiety meds are meant for short term coping; you need help figuring out how to get past this difficult time...you have too many wonderful things coming up to be feeling so horrible

I wish I had something helpful to say, but I'm not a psychiatrist nor should I pretend to be, so I'll just offer some hugs instead

Hey hunny....i have had anxiety for as long as I can remember. I had severe panic attacks my senior year of college and went on medication right after graduation. I stayed on medication for about 4 years and just stopped taking it this year. I disagree with the idea that medication is bad for you. For me, it helped me get through a really difficult time and functon until I could cope with my anxiety on my own. I am now in a very different place and no longer needed my medication. I still get anxiious (as we all do) but I am now at a place where I can handle it on my own. I am a definite proponent of medication (in certain instances) based on your physicians opinion. But this is just MY situation. I dont think its fair to generalize and say anythign is all around bad for you. It depends on the person. Please let me know if you need anything.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
I also went through something similiar......I ended an 8 year relationship with someone, and started having anxiety. So my MD put me on effexor XR and it really helped. Then, I decided that I wanted to stop taking it because I wanted to start thinking about having kids. It was extremely hard to come off of it. So, my advice to you (which is something that alot of doctors never recommend because they are so quick to pull out their prescription pad, they can't think of anything else) FIND A GOOD THERAPIST. Having someone to talk to makes all of the difference. I wish someone would have told me to do the same back then, Yes the meds got me through a rough time, but having someone who was unbiased to talk to would have done just as much good. I didn't realize how important therapy was until I met my FH who is a social worker. If you FM me where you live, I will ask him to find a good therapist for you.
I can tell you that the past few weeks I feel anxiety like you are describing: afraid to go to work, sometimes i get anxious when I drive. Today I was coming home from somewhere and all of a sudden had no clue where I was and had a panic attack. You have to recognize that you are panicing, accept it, take a deep breath and keep going. We're all under ALOT of pressure. pressure to have the perfect wedding, pressure to lose 500 lbs in 3 months, pressure to please everyone, and do everything. Start excersising. Take long walks alone, or with your dog. Make time for yourself everyday. You'll get through it.
FM me if you need anything.

you have FM

But i just wanted to add here that I also disagree that all medication is bad for everyone, While I have also suffered severly with similair issues, i am now a therapist and dont usually go to drugs for an anwser buttt... many people have chemical imbalances that require the medicine, i am on and will be on it for the rest of my life. It took ALOT of trial and error to get the right one, at my worst i was on 5 different ones.. BUT i got through it am for the most part very stable. but without the meds I would be in a constant state of panic.

but the point of my story, while psychology and other alternative forms of therapy would be ideal, dont rule out meds, some people really need them.

Re: hi girls need help or just need to vent

First off your TOTALLY not alone. You can see from the other girls on here that people go through this. I have personally gone through this and continue to work to stay on top of it. My 2 best friends suffer from it as well.

I have to say that I agree with the girls who tell you that generlizing that ALL meds dont work is NOT true. At my worst I was on meds and they helped me through it. Now I am not on any meds, but if I have a panic attack like full blown attack, I have xanax at my side! LOL But I cant even remember the last time I had to take one. Ive learned to breath, really think through my feelings and most of all talk to my friends and get myself OUT of my own head.

The one thing that saved my life, was an AMAZING AMAZING therapist. He was a psychologist and he saved my life. I saw him for over 2 years and he helped me through EVERYTHING. I learned SO MUCH about myself and about the world and things I wanted to improve.

You need to go to a doc that WONT just push meds on you, you need to def talk!

And we are all here for you and seriously if you ever need to talk to someone who can relate, please FM me anytime! =))))
