High vs Low centerpieces - help

High vs Low centerpieces - help

So I'm starting to think about centerpieces, and I can't decide between high vs low centerpieces in general (haven't gotten to color yet).

Assuming that cost is not a factor, why do you like or not like high centerpieces? And why do you like or not like low centerpieces?

Thanks!

Re: High vs Low centerpieces - help

I wanted to do half high and half low from the day I got engaged. I ended up changing it to all low because glass vases was not the look I was going for. Glass is more modern and I am more traditional. I didn't want the tall vases to obstruct peoples views when sitting at the table. I do like high a lot because I think it's more dramatic. Hopefully I won't regret my decision of all low.

My CPs are relatively low. The tall ones just aren't my thing, for me... but if I were to do tall, and money were not an issue, I would have wanted the cherry blossom branches.

I always feel like I can't see around tall centerpieces, so I went with low.

But, at the same time, I think they look very elegant, probably a little more so than the low ones.

I just happen to prefer the practicality of low CPs over the decor of tall ones. Plus low was a lot cheaper for me :)

I'm doing half and half. We are going to end up with at least 30 tables and it would be way too crazy with all high centerpieces.

I think you should def take into consideration the height of the ceiling in your RH.

i always loved high CPs in pics.....

i went to a weddign where there was very high CPs and yes it looked stunning....very eye catching and elegant but........

i ahetd trying to look around it to talk to other people across the table. If i wamted to see or talk to someone on the other end i had to get up and go over there or lean to the side and peek around. i had no idea what was going on away from my side lol

i want everyone to be able to see what is going on around them so we decided as beautiful as it is....to go with small CPs.

It depends on the look you want:

low CP's give you a more intimate feel

high CP's are more dramatic, and gives you that wow factor when guests enter the room

I like half and half because high centerpieces are so elegant and give the room that extra boost. However, sometimes it can be overwhelming and a little to much. All low is borrrinnngggg. But I def. understand that some people are trying to save money.

I have always liked the low CP's & so does FH. Easier to see over.. However, if you have a big RH room- the high look nice & help to fill the space. I prefer 1/2 high & 1/2 low over all high though...

I agree. I think low is more me b/c it's less showy and dramatic....more low-key and just pretty without being over the top. Don't get me wrong, some high CPs are beautiful, but they just aren't me!

I am doing half and half. I wanted high centerpieces and my fh wanted low. SO our compromised was 1/2 and 1/2. It works out great because we are both happy now, saved a little money, and I think it will look nicer visually. You have the romantic, dramatic look with the high....and the classy but simplistic view of the low.

I did half high and half short. I always thought I wanted all high but my father insisted we do some short as he thinks the high ones will block the view. However, he doesn't realize that the short ones are the ones which will block the table!!! Anyways, when I went to see my samples I was BLOWN away by the short ones. They are the more modern ones where my tall ones are very traditional. Both gorgeous though. Why not do the best of both worlds???!!!

Re: High vs Low centerpieces - help

thank you ladies for your imput...

I haven't formally talked to FH about this yet...wanted to gather some info and photos to show him first. But we attended a wedding last June that had low centerpieces that didn't block the view, and we liked them alot...he said something to the extent of we should do this, too.

I like low centerpieces, but I do agree that high ones have a wow factor. And my mom thinks so too...she mentioned the other day that high centerpieces make the room look more elegant.

I haven't discussed 1/2 high and 1/2 low with FH yet. And I dread mentioning it to my mom because I know what she'll say: the relatives (specifically all our picky aunts & uncles) who are sitting at tables with different centerpieces will get jealous of the other tables, and vice versa.

I know what you're all going to say...why worry about what others, especially picky relatives, have to say when this is OUR wedding...but those of you who have close-knit families with picky relatives know how this one thing will be repeated over and over and over again years later, and you'll never hear the end of it. So I'm trying to minimize reasons for gossip and complaints.

how did this turn into a vent all of a sudden?

anyway, keep your comments coming...

I totally agree. I think it depends on the 'feel' you want for your wedding. Ours is at a country inn, overlooking the woods out back, and it just wouldn't feel 'right' to have high CP's. The wedding is so much cozier than that. But at a glamorous country club / catering hall with mirrors, marble, etc., high CPs would certainly fit and look very pretty.

Although high cp's are hard to see around, I love how they make the room look so glamorous. I also prefer high cp's at Leonards, I just feel like it goes with the decor. I agree with the other girls about doing 1/2 low and 1/2 high if you are torn. But if you and FH like low cp's better, then go with it, it should be all about what you both want.

I like the high ones for our wedding. I like when there is a tall narrow vase and the flowers on top. I feel like the flowers stand out in the room and because the vase it tall and thin, it doesn't block the guests from seeing the people sitting at their table. That was my reasoning on picking high cp's.

I think if they are very low, that can look good too. I just hate when people can't see across their table.

I like low b/c 1) they're not in the way 2) people can really use them at home as a centerpiece on the coffee table or something.

i like things a bit dramatic hahaha so thats why i went with high. But thats not everybodies taste so whats right for me, another person can hate. Doesn't make one right over the other, just pick something that is more your personality and compliments the rest of the stuff at your wedding.

Re: High vs Low centerpieces - help

I literally had my own mental battle over this for almost a year....i literally decided about 5 days ago (note when my wedding date is )

I chose to have High CP's because I have very high ceilings at my RH so I figured it would give the room more volume. My sister had a lower ceiling at her RH and used low CP's and they looked fantastic.

Personally, I am a bigger fan of high CP's.

I am having a mix of Hot Lady Roses (bright pink) with pink and green hydrangeas. They will be raised in a clear vase with hot pink lights sunk into them and crystal beads on the bottom of the vase.
