Hi...ok so I have a wonderful boyfriend, however am not a bride, or engaged. I heard about this site from a few friends who had used this site in the past when planning their weddings...and I knew this was the place to come for answers.
Firsts just want to apologize for intruding on this site, but I am a college student at SUNY Farmingdale and am doing a project for my Marriage-Sociology class. The assignment is to plan a fake wedding with a budget of $10,000!
So far I have found the brides dress shoes and veil and well as the tux and grooms shoes on ebay for inexpensive prices. Also, I went to a supermarket and got their brochure for wedding flower packages.
What I need now is for any info that you ladies might have for a very inexpensive:
Reception hall/restaurant Photographer Church
I actually have to give the Professor REAL PRICES, they can't be made up, so we can calculate the total costs and stay under our budget.
Any advice on ways that you have saved money please let me know!
Such as if you got a inexpensive cake from a super market let me know what store and maybe where I could find the prices listed. If anything I wrote needs more explanning let me know!
Thank you, thank you so much for all help, I appreciate this and again sorry for invading your site!!

Re: Hi....I need some help...
You would probably be able to do the ceremony AND reception at a VFW hall and pay for a minister to come in?
Good luck with the project!
eta: I wish my college taught a class on how to plan a wedding!!!

Re: Hi....I need some help...
How many guests are you budgeting the wedding for? There are several places that do all inclusive packages starting at $7000. Includes hall, food, dj, video, photo, flowers, limo and ceremony on site.

Re: Hi....I need some help...
ceremony and reception in same location saves$$
this way there is only one fee for location, bridal party and guests don't have to travel... means no real need for limo
you might also want to look into bridal bargains.. i think that's what the book is called, for ideas on stretching your wedding dollar
good luck. let us know what you come up with

haha! i was going to say the same thing! Can you plan a destination wedding? I have a collegue who planned her wedding in the Bahamas and kept it in the $7000-$10,000 range. You should consider it and find out if that's a possibility.

Since the Prof gave us the buget, I figured that I would first find a place and price the hall first and how much it is per plate, and then decide how many guests to invite, but I imagine it has to be a small number.

all inclusive pricing! The Wedding Center & Wedding World in Commack can give you prices that include invites, flowers, photo, video, limos, etc. for like $5K
i agree about finding a price for a VFW or knights of columbus hall--where they do the ceremony there.
good luck on your project!

Re: Hi....I need some help...
remember that the vast majority of halls have minimum number of people requirements. so just b/c there is a place where the plate is $100, it doesn't mean you can invite 50 people to keep your reception at $5k.
you will have to meet a minimum that will be usually at least 100, usually on a friday, or at least 120, usually for a saturday. of course these are not all-conclusive, but generally this is the case.

Re: Hi....I need some help...
I wouldn't use any limos, go the buffet route, do your own hair and make-up, make your own invites, go to www.animalrescuesite.com for $0.50 favors (donation to animal rescue). Hope this helps with your project-any questions you can FM me.
