Snowboard girl gave me this workout - HTH

1.warm up for 5 minutes.
2.go as fast as you possibly can on a hard level for 30 seconds
3.then go to an easy pace for 60 seconds.
4.repeat this 8 times.
5.then cool down.

very cool! thanks..I'll give it a try..I only do 'sprints' maybe twice in my whole 30 minute cardio regiment. Think I need to mix it up more.

HIIT cannot be done in 5 minute intervals. Basically if you can do the 'sprint' for 5 minutes, you are nto going hard enough.

Elyptical Machines can work fine, but start at 1 minute moderate and 30 second HARD rate. Eventually raise it to 45 seconds - 1 minute. Your goal in HIIT is to be able to go hard for the same period of time - and I mean HARD! - for the same time as your rest (30 / 30 or 45/45).

HIIT is about challenging yourself so push yourself. Get up beat songs on your IPOD so you can get it on for your sprints. A softer more relaxing song for your moderate time.

Ok, so I do a 3 min warm up, then do 1 minute of moderate, 1 minute hard..etc..

Should I be concerned with my heart rate? Does going in the opposite direction help, I do mix it up that way.

I'm not a runner so I need low impact for joints. I just want to get the most out of my cardio.

Should you be concerned about your heart rate?

Yes and No. Your heart rate should be very high during and after sprints. That is the objective. It should decrease during moderate times and then spike again.

a 3-5 minute warm up is a good thing. Get the blood flowing and let the body know you are going to kick it ***.

HIIT will get you a GREAT workout. Try to perform 7-10 sprints and then take a break (or just go slow). Let the body relax a little and then go again for another round of 5.

Here is how it will look
3-5 mintue warm up (slow-moderate pace)

1 minute: Moderate
30 second SPRINT! Go hard
1 minute moderate
30 second sprint
***Repeat for 10 cycles***

5 minutes rest. Either get off or go very slow. Let the body relax before the second and shorter round.

1 minute moderate:
30 second Sprint
1 minute moderate
30 second sprint
***repeat for 5 cycles***

It will be fun. make sure you push yourself hard.

Doing it again today-some strength training first though. UGH!!!

I guess the jelly leg is the key!
