we're going to drive up to mt. Haleakala ourselves and hike into the crater.
someone i know recommended against the one where you bike down the mountain. she said it's a narrow road where cars also go and the people on bikes looked really nervous. not for me!

we drove up and down mt halekela. it was amazing to watch the sunrise! we didnt do road to hana (i was sick the day we were going to do it...)

You HAVE to do the road to Hana! I drove up Halekela, which was great but if I had one more day in Maui I woudl have done Road to Hana again! It was fantastic! YOu see the best Maui has to offer, get the Maui Revealed book and it will tell you where to pull off and what to see!

We drove it and watching the bike riders I told DH there is no way I wanted to do that! They are on the same road as the cars an its pretty steep in some areas so it looked like they went pretty fast!

i did both! the road to hana is beautiful and a must see---you will get some beautiful views/pics! i also biked down Mt. H.......and it was awesome---not scary at all!!!........we woke up at the crack of dawn and watched the sunrise which was beautiful! and then biked down......there is a van that follows behind the line of bikers in case anyone gets scared and wants to ride in the van........you coast down so it is not strenuous......one of the highlights of our trip!

I did both also. I was really scared once I started biking, but by the end I loved it and am so happy we did it. However, I think the Road to Hana offers more sights and beautiful photo opportunities. If I had to choose one, I would choose Hana.

I only did the road to Hana and loved it. I'd definitely say a must see.
