Hindu / 'Western' Wedding

Hindu / 'Western' Wedding

Just started my wedding planning for Fall 2010 (from reading some posts, it seems I'm 6 months too late...but I just don't want to wait!).

So here's the deal: Trying to put together a traditional Indian wedding mixed w. a Western-style Christian wedding. 300+ guests, MUST cater own food (just don't trust a random place to make good Indian food), want a ceremony on site, would prefer on the water.

Budget is...well, who knows ($150pp??). Want it nice, but doesn't need to be overt the top. Anybody have any experience in this type of wedding.

My FH is Bengali-American and I'm Irish-American.

We also wanted something with outdoor/water capability, and the food was a big issue - not only do we need typical American-style food and some Indian- or Asian-inspired dishes as well...it all had to be vegetarian, as FH and I are both veggies.

We chose the Swan Club because it has all of the outdoor capabilities that we envisioned, they've done wonderful vegetarian weddings before, and they allow you to bring in food from an outside caterer for the cocktail hour. We'll have a good amount of Indian cocktail hour food because of this. As main dishes, we're looking into having something more Chinese-inspired.

FH's family always uses the same halls for their functions and we felt a lot of pressure to do so, but never caved in to it. The halls they've used were just not 'us', plus we've been there for so many functions already that they just didn't feel special.

We wanted to book the Swan Club as soon as we saw it.
