As much as I want a 10 day vacation in Fiji or Tahiti, that isn't happening. We were going to go to Puerto Rico and still might, but may do California or Vegas instead. Anyone go on a 'local' HM? (Meaning in the continental U.S)
Thanks

Re: HM in the U.S?
Me me me!!
I didn't post a review yet because I'm waiting for pics. We did Vegas, San Francisco, rented a car there and drove up to Napa...then drove the coastal Route 1 to LA. It was adventurous, fun, romantic, it was perfect!!!!!!!

Re: HM in the U.S?
Hey- how about Mexico- that is where we went... we went to a really quiet part and we only went for a week- it was $800 for the airfare and $199 a night for the most AMAZING suite...
the $ really goes a long way there too-
if you want you can come by at 7.30 & I'll show you the pictures.

Re: HM in the U.S?
We were gone for 11 days. We did 4 in Vegas (could have done 3) 4 in San Francisco (could have done 5 to add another day to the wine country....aaaahhhh LOVE IT!), and we added 3 days so we could drive a whole day down the coast and then stay with my family. We also wished we had planned the drive better so we could stay a night and really enjoy the sites down the coast. We did the 17 mile scenic drive around Pebble Beach....it was breathtaking. The drive down the coast is pretty harrowing at times, because it's you driving on a cliff, and the ocean about 500 feet down at times! But it's incredible!!
It wasn't very expensive....you could book this very cheap if you wanted to. We stayed in pretty good hotels in Vegas and San Francisco, but I think if you booked it yourself online you could save a lot of money. We used Liberty and our travel agent was terrible. If you have a good agent, it can be reasonable. Our room in Vegas at the Bellagio was bumped up because we were newleyweds...so that was a BIG bonus. It also helps to go to Vegas midweek, when the rates are lower and it's so much less crowded.
The car rental was about 300 bucks to pick up in San Fran and drop off in LA....with unlimited milage.
Edited to add a footnote:
DO NOT FLY AMERICA WEST!!

Re: HM in the U.S?
Well, going there the plane was packed to the brim and very old...so the seats were on top of one another. It was disgusting.
Coming home is the real issue...
We flew LA-Vegas, to make a connection to NY. The LA-Vegas flight, which is only 45 minutes, was the worst flight I have ever taken in my life. We don't know what the hell the pilot was doing, but we swerved and see-sawed for the entire length of the trip. It was a clear day, no wind problems. The turbulence was unbearable. Then, he overshot the landing, and had to pull back up again to circle and land again. People were vomiting on the plane, and when we finally landed, everyone made bee-lines for the bathroom. It was horrible.
Then, our connecting flight was delayed for 2 hours because of an 'air conditioning' problem on the plane. When they said they fixed it and we'd be boarding, they told us, no wait...not yet. And made us wait another hour. To make up for it, they served sodas. It was insulting. I wouldn't get back on that airline if someone paid ME to do it!

Re: HM in the U.S?
I am staying in the US. FH and I are taking a three week road trip honey moon. We are driving out west. We are going to Vegas, California, Arizona. We will also be stopping to see things in other states along the way. I am so psyched. This is just such an us vacation. We are not beach people so didn't want to spend the money to go somewhere we wouldn't enjoy. Plus, we don't fly. Big fear of it. We are going to go to universal in California and the Price is Right. And we will go see some shows in Vegas. FH wants to camp in the grand canyon for a night. I told him I didn't want to but I am going to surprise him with that one. He really wants to do that. There is so much to do in the US!!!

This is where we are staying: Vintner's Inn It's in Sonoma County, California, an hour north of San Francisco.
We'll be there in 66 days!

Re: HM in the U.S?
Luna....you have to do the Neibaum-Coppola Winery (used to be Inglenook), the tour is great and the tasting is sooooo nice. If you do Sterling Vinyards, call first and find out if they are still under construction. It's such a beautiful Vineyard, but a lot of their views were closed for renovation. It was fun to take the Tram up to the mountain top though! Good pictures! I can't wait until our home PC is hooked up so I can show them to you!!
I love that so many people are taking domestic honeymoons! Our opinion on it was that we wanted to see as much of our own home as possible before we went to see everyone elses!

Re: HM in the U.S?
Wow I am excited now
Boop I was at the Grand Canyon 2 years ago - just so you know, if you are camping in the Grand Canyon it takes 12 hours to get down there and back up. And you have to get down there by donkey. And if God forbid something happens, there is no first aid right there! Just wanted to tell you so you can plan accordingly. I loved it there.
Misty that's awful! Sounds like a bad movie! When I flew AW I agree it was small, but I had no problems.

Re: HM in the U.S?
Thanks Jen, I just informed FH that I am not camping in the grand canyon. No way am I riding a donkey for 12 hours. Ouch!!! Plus I am sure there are no bathrooms down there. Guess I should have thought of that first. Not exactly the romance I was looking for on my HM.
