HM: Online booking or Agent??

HM: Online booking or Agent??

I have found the cruise that my fh and I want to take for our honeymoon. I was wondering how everyone booked their hm. If they used a travel agent or did it online. Is there a plus to an agent? I usually just book everything myself online.

Thanks for the help.

Re: HM: Online booking or Agent??

I always just book online bc a travel agent is always much more money. Some people book with agents bc if something goes wrong they call up the agent and they take care of it, instead of doing it themselves.

I would def look at both options.

I used Dawn from CruiseOne. She is a vendor on here and does everything through emails or you can talk to her over the phone if you want. There was no fee for using her and she was able to upgrade my room and saved me $200 because the prices had gone down. I would totally recommend her...shes a sweetheart

We're going to book on our own... We travel a lot and I think you'll get a better deal doing it yourself.

Not necessarily, many times TA's can get you great deals. I searched online for a very long time for HM and did find great deals, however the best deal for example was on an airline thats not really known, long flight with stops and horrible times leaving. I contacted a TA and he got me an even better deal, i was shocked what an amazing deal he got and was way better than all the discount online sites. Not only that but he got us on the best flight i kept seeing online which was very expensive online. It was the shortest flight which helped alot bc it was 8 hours instead of the 12-13 hours i was finding. Our TA got us airfare from NYC to spain, spain to france a week later, france to NY for $2000 total and not per person but for dh and I both so $1k each for all those flights.

He also used his own discounts for hotels and got us insane deals. Also hooked us up with car transfers from airports to hotel and back.

No matter what you do, get travel insurance.

we used the TA they use at DH's job, a few ppl asked me for his info so you know what i gotta find out if he does many non corporate bookings, he did it for us but wonder if he'll do others. I feel bad bc ppl ask me so ill get his name and number, i have it somewhere in the BR.

No we didnt do a cruise, we just did a week in spain and then went to Monaco so flight was actually to Nice in france and then had a car pick us up to take us to monaco. We stayed at hotels in both places

there are some great deals out there, also just so you know many TA's do price match so ask about that. I saw recently $400 flights to Spain

Re: HM: Online booking or Agent??

try Kayak.com or Mobissimo.com for airfare
I booked for this summer to go to Italy for $630 with taxes.

I was reading in Dest Wedding magazine that these sites also are great.

Tripbase.com

Yapta.com

Insidetrip.com

Re: HM: Online booking or Agent??

if you bring the travel agent what you found online (through expedia for example) they will usually match or beat the price you found online......so i would go with the travel agent.....its up to you though. before you go to the travel agent do some searching online that way you know the prices ahead a time and your able to get the best deal through the travel agent.

i would just try both, check online and then contact a TA and ask what the best deal is that they can get you, doesn't hurt to try. People always assume that TA's charge extra for themselves but they don't, they make the commission off of you booking a trip. Ive used TA's other times too and got better deals from the TA than a website. Ive done both online and TA. I was considering booking online for HM at first if i was able to get it cheaper but then I tried a TA bc i kept remembering what happened to us 2 years before on our cruise and knew we had to do a TA. We had to go on a cruise in 06, something happened and it was delayed by a few days, at first though we werent even told when it would go out and we already took our days off so if it was going to be much later we couldn't wait on that. So called the TA that booked the cruise for all of us(there were 12 of us) she booked us at a hotel in Cabo for that friday(we had to leave on a wednesday for the cruise) she said if the cruise isnt ready to leave by Friday then we will be going to Cabo, MX, but she said if the cruise does leave on friday then not to worry she cancel the hotel and we'll just go on the cruise as planned. I have to say it was great to just have someone deal with all of this and we wouldnt have been able to do this on our own or thought to book us somewhere else while we still were booked for the cruise and didnt cancel that. It was frustrating to be ready to leave on vacation, one that we had planned 5 months prior lol, and not know if we would leave, not to mention we were in astoria with a 9 day black out at the time lol. We were pissed needless to say, and she handled it all we didnt even have to call the cruise line or call anybody to deal with that frustration she took care of it all. The cruise did leave on that friday, which was great bc dh had planned to propose that night on the cruise so still left on the day he wanted. He had planned to propose on July 22nd, he wouldve been pissed if he didnt bc his number is 2 and had it in his head.

that was just to show the advantage sometimes in booking a TA. For other trips we've done online, for HM its good to at least consider a TA. You just never know what can happen. Look at now with mexico, imagine if you had a hm there and had to leave now and to deal with booking elsewhere. If you have a TA they do it all for you. Well again thats why you need to get travel insurance

That was def. a good story to share because now I will def make sure I look at a TA. I remember the block out that happened in Astoria. My cousins and friends would come shower and stay by me during that time! It was a really good thing that you had a TA to help you guys out. So glad it worked out with ur DH proposal plan too. Im sure she would have been upset if his plan didnt work.

Re: HM: Online booking or Agent??

Yeah that was crazy, it was insane to see a huge line on ditmars of ppl waiting in line for ice bc all the stores were obviously closed. And the one small part that s*cked was that i had dropped off a bunch of clothes at the cleaners for the trip and they were closed so i wasnt able to pick up any of those clothes lol, oh well lol.

Yeah, in the end it was a great end to a horrible week. Thank god Dh didnt see it as a sign not to propose lol. I had my suspicions and all i kept thinking is OH NO he might be like W** is going on, maybe its a sign not to do it
