HM Poll

I know it has been asked A TON, but here's the deal:

We had booked Excellence Playa Mujeres for 5 nights, oceanfront rooftop suite in November. Now, we are all aware of whats in the news, even though I hope its just being blown out of proportion. I know we can 'wait it out', but ahhhhhhh! Flu season starts in November again...

I had originally wanted to go to Hawaii but it was $$ and we would only be there for 6 nights (job constraints), but still- its Hawaii.

AND, I just found roundtrip flights from NYC---> Honolulu on United.com for $350 each!! arrive early afternoon, leave late at night

So, would you cancel the all-inclusive rooftop pool (easy and fun!) in favor of 3 nights Waikiki, 3 nights Kauai (short trip, but again- I think Hawaii is so romantic)? With the cheap flight to Hawaii, the price would be about the same- we just probably wouldn't eat and drink as much.

I guess I'm just looking for an opinion- my fiance and I are totally stuck and I think he's tired of talking about it!

to me it sounds like you had your heart set on Hawaii and what you really wanted to do. If a great opportunity presents itself and now bc of the price you can go, why not take advantage and do what you had your heart set on. I say go for it.

if you can cancel the HM in Mexico and get your money back, I would def do the same. Hawaii sounds amazing and I would def go if you find that great deal!

By the way, we looked back into our rooms on Maui and actually added 2 nights for $2 because it was so much cheaper to rebook our rooms. I would look into it again. They are hurting out there too with this economy.

my heart is/was set on hawaii- FH just thinks its far, which it is. i say sleep on the plane!

we can get most of our $$ back- we lose some on the flights though.

but ive been looking at hawaii hotels and they are pretty cheap right now! i can't believe you got to increase for only $2!

the Hawaii thing sound great... you can also do a cruise to hawaii and then kind of get the best of both worlds... but I wouldnt cancel if your going to lose money

I wouldnt go to mexico bc of all the stuff going on there... I wouldnt do hawaii either bc thats def not enough time... When you have a long flight, you're bound to have jetlag and you're going to need at least a day just to get your body adjusted to the time again

So i voted other... theres a million places you could travel to

Hawaii! Two islands in a week might be pushing it though. The first time I went we went to 3 islands in 10 days, and I felt like it was too much moving around.

thanks for the replies!

i did that hawaii cruise a few years ago and LOVED it, but unfortunately it only leaves on sat and we can't do it :(

i'm a night shift nurse so i live in a constant state of jet lag :) but FH doesn't so its definitely a consideration!

we'll lose some $$ on the flights, which stinks, but what can you do.

also looking elsewhere, but it ends up costing as much- like stlucia, other caribbean...

There are so many other places and beautiful islands that are closer!

Hawaii!!! IMO that is more of a once in a lifetime trip whereas Mexico would be a great anniversary vacay but thats just me!

If you can get your money back i would go for it. but then again your going in november this whole thing might be over with. And it sounds like you wanted hawaii from the start lol.
