So what do you girls think about your bridal party chipping in to get you something collectively for the bridal shower?
My cousin suggested it to my fsil and my fsil shot her down - told her she never heard of that and prefer to buy her own gift for me.
Honestly, it doesnt matter to me, either way...
Just wanted to know what you girls thought - were you in bridal party that got gift together? Or is this unheard of?

Re: Hmmm
I was in a bridal party this past Sept and we all bought our own gift. But Ive heard from quite a few people that bridal parties also chip in and buy one big gift. LIke maybe they would all give money to get you your bedding or something..
Doesnt matter to me which way my girls do it

Re: Hmmm
I have heard of this being done. That way the bridal party can get you one big gift instead of smaller things. I am a realist so I feel that they already spent alot of money planning the shower and if they can chip in for one gift it would be best for their pockets.

Re: Hmmm
All the weddings I've been a bridesmaid in, the BP always chipped in and got a group gift. Usually one of the bigger more expensive items off her registry, like her whole bedding set, or all her pots, luggage, etc. My BP got me my entire luggage set and some other things.
Some of them also got me smaller individual gifts which I've also done as a BM in addition to the group gift, but it wasn't necessary, just something i wanted to do.

hmm exactly it isn't really unheard of I know some bm's that have done that - in my opinion it is a very nice gesture but she doesnt have to neccessarily do that if she doesnt want to

Yeah, I do not care, either way - just wondering if this was common or not.

Re: Hmmm
I've seen it go either way, actually.
I think it's nice to have the BM chip in and get one big gift, but it's totally up to your BM. It's definitely not unheard of - lots of people do it!
If your FSIL shot it down, then I'd let her buy her own gift... but if the rest of your BM want to come together and buy a gift, then that's ok, too. I would just have your other BM let your FSIL know what is going on, just so if she's the only one left out, it's on her terms.
Good Luck!

Same here - in just about wedding I was a BM, we chipped in for a gift. But there were times I got my own gift. Either way is perfectly acceptable, of course! I think that getting a group gift lightens the load sometimes on the BM's finances - especially if they are paying for the shower, it's a way of them getting something nice for the bride but may not cost as much as getting their own gift. ALSO, I think it's a way of the BM's showing their support 'as a team' to the bride, from 'the girls,' you know?

Re: Hmmm
Its really up to your friends that are organizing the party. I went to one where the BMs asked us to all chip in money and they purchased a spa weekend and an LV bag for the bride to be.

Re: Hmmm
I have been in parties where we all chipped in and then I always bought something small and personal....thought it was a great idea to get the big ticketed items off the list...

I've done it both ways before!! And it doesnt really matter to me how my BP does it. I gave my sister ideas if they do chip in & if they dont they have my registry for ideas!!

Re: Hmmm
I've seen it both ways also... the whole BP chipping in for one of the bigger gifts, or a gift certificate to the spa at their HM resort (I personally LOVE this idea!!) or chipping in for the wedding night hotel room, or a limo ride to the airport for the HM. At my shower, my BP (except FSIL) all chipped in for a few of my registry items... FSIL wanted to buy her own gifts, which was fine too.

Re: Hmmm
I've always done individual gifts...never really seen joint gifts being done unless it was a mom and her younger daughters buying an expensive gift, but that's just my experience
