Hmmm tux/tie opinion.

Hmmm tux/tie opinion.

FH is getting his tux from Mens Wearhouse. I've tried to convince him time and again to wear a nice suit, but princess wants a tux, so princess gets what he wants. Well, I'm not too crazy about the ties/vests that they had there. I was wondering how you ladies felt about leaving the vests out entirely and just getting FH and the GMs coordinating ties.

I really wanted FH to wear one of these ties (below), that I found at thetiebar.com, but then what could I do for the GMs? Solid green? Do you think the tuxes will look okay without vests? I need opinions!

And then do I need to get the FOB/FOG ties as well? Should they wear vests? I'm definitely making this harder than it has to be!

Yeah, I definitely like the second one better, also.

But do you think a tux without a vest will look alright? Or just weird?

One of the requirements of black tie is a black waist covering, be it a cummerbund or a low-cut evening vest.

The ties are nice, but aren't really appropriate for a tux. If he is wearing a tux, he should wear a self-tie black bowtie.

If you like the look of a standard tie, have him wear a nice suit.

OMG I hated their ties/vests too! I am looking for a replacement tie, but am keeping the vest.

I like tie #1 best!

That's what I'm saying!! FH nearly RIPPED my head off when I suggested no vests. I was *shocked* by how angry he got. I guess he'll just wear the ugly @ss vest because I do not need to be b!tched at by groomzilla again!

Haha seriously, it's SO not worth it! He did agree that if he thought the vest looked stupid, he'd opt not to wear it. So hopefully he'll come to his senses!

Dh didn't have a vest, just not his style. I loved the way he looked along with the GM's. I think it would look just fine.

As for the ties, not a fan of #2, but love #1

he can wear a tie with a tux but the definition of a tux is 3 pieces... tie/bowtie, jacket, cumberbund/vest. so he needs the vest in order for it to be a tux. otherwise it's just going to be a suit and tie with a very low cut jacket.

Correct. A tux needs a waist covering. However, make sure not to use the high cut six-button vests, as those are for 3-piece business suits.

Here is a good, and low priced option for a black tie vest:

If you don't like the vest, have him wear either a cummerbund, or he could even do a double breasted dinner jacket.
