In spirit of the Holidays, I was wondering what traditions all of you FBs have with your families that you plan on continuing with your FH.
I have two that really stick out:
1) My parents used to pack my brother and sister and I into the car and we'd drive around the neighborhood looking at Christmas lights. We'd have hot chocolate and listen to Christmas music. i started doing that with my FH last year and were going to do it again this weekend!!
2) Every Christmas morning, my family would listen to this Nat King Cole tape, that's right, tape as we opened up our presents. Unfortunately, I cannot, for the life of me, find this tape on a CD ANYWHERE!! :(
What's your tradition?

Re: Holiday Tradition
Nat King Cole has a couple of Christmas albums, which one are you thinking of?
MY family has kinda been in flux the past few years, so our traditions have kind of extinguished... but FH and I always walk around Brooklyn and look at the lights and go to a cafe afterwards for coffee... that's what we did on one of our first dates

awwww. that's so cute!!! I wish I get my FH to go to brooklyn and look at the lights.... It's an album called 'Christmas is for Children' or something along those lines. I've tried looking for it everywhere and have had noooo luck!

FH lives in Broolyn... his neighborhood was actually featured years ago on some PBS type special called Dyker Lights... it's pretty impressive over there

Re: Holiday Tradition
Both FMIL and my fathery are big into majorly decorating the house with lights outside. My dad has done for as long as I can remember and FMIL was featured in Newday years ago for her light display. It looks beautiful!! I hope when we have a house we do that.
A new tradition my FH and I started is getting a real Chritmas tree. Both our families never had real trees. I love it (despite that it may be slightly messy sometimes).

Re: Holiday Tradition
yea, my FH wants to get a real tree. We'll be moving in together in August, so by this time next year we'll be celebrating our first Christmas together.
That's a good idea, starting a new tradition!
Gotta think of one!

Our Christmases were REALLY festive...there was so much stuff around the holidays that my parents did for us...I guess, amongst the crazy decorations and cookie baking, I have a couple of things I'd like to carry on once we have kids.
One is that we always covered baby Jesus in the nativity with a little tissue blanket, and at midnight on Christmas eve, us kids would (fight over who got to) uncover him. That was nice.
Other is that santa always stopped by 'early'...and while my sisters and were at Christmas Eve mass, there would be one gift each when we arrived back home. It was always a new pair of awesome Christmas pajamas. I wish I got happy Christmas pajamas when I got home on Christmas Eve now.

Re: Holiday Tradition
The house will ALWAYS be decorated. Right now we live in an apartment so I can only decorate the window for all to see but when we get a house, you can bet i'll be covering everything with lights haha.
Christmas Tree will be up every year. There has not been one Christmas where I did not have a Christmas and I refuse to not have a tree. Doesn't have to be real. We recently purchased a 7.5' pre-lit fake tree that I think looks goregous and when I look at it, it doesn't even look like it's fake. Hopefully it will last us for many years.
Christmas has ALWAYS been at my grandma/aunt's house. It's seems to be the only time all of my family can get together because Christmas Day everyone is running around to other houses. Since FIL's don't seem to do anything on the Eve, I'm happy that FH will be able to join us every year for that without interferring with other plans.
Christmas Day, my grandma/aunt have a small brunch and then from there I visited everyone else in the Bronx and then head back to Queens to celebrate Christmas with FH's family. Since FH comes for Christmas Eve I don't expect him to have to go to the brunch as well. He should be with his family. We went to his mom's house in the morning and then from there I went to the Bronx myself for the brunch and it worked out just fine.
and of course... I have to watch 'A Christmas Story' at least once during the marathon... Christmas wouldn't be complete otherwise

OMG... I fall asleep to 'A Christmas Story' every year when the marathon is on. And I always manage to wake up at the same part where i fell asleep!!

Re: Holiday Tradition
LOL... well make it your goal this year to stay up the entire movie.
I have to find it but somewhere in my mom's attic I have the 'Pink Nightmare' hoodie that looks like Ralphie's bunny costume ... it has the ears on the hood and everything
Favorite Quotes: 'Fra-gi-le... it must be Italian' 'Daddy's gonna kill Ralphie' 'Only one thing in the world could've dragged me away from the soft glow of electric sex gleaming in the window'
