DH & I are trying to come up with ideas to start for us and our DD on the way.
So, I ask you all what are some holiday traditions you did every year as a child that you loved.
What are some you started with your DH/FW &/or FI?
The only one we have come up with is we bought a plain red tree skirt and plan to buy something that symoblizes the year thats passed (this year a bride/groom and possibly a pregnant woman) cut them out of felt/make them...put the year on it. Next year we will add a baby girl and so on. As the kids get older they will pick it out.
Any other ideas are greatly appreciated! (Thanksgiving Day Parade, cutting down the tree??) things like that!!!
Thank you in advance

Re: Holiday Traditions
I think the whole tree picking process is great....taking the drive out east, cutting it down, having hot cider or hot cocoa, then bringing it home and decorating it with a roaring fire, christmas music playing and baking cookies.
Also, buying an ornament each year from somewhere that you visit or something momentous.
Oh, and my family always takes a group shot in front of the tree....then all the girls, then all the boys...serious shot, then funny poses

Re: Holiday Traditions
someone hides a pickle (ceramic or aluminum) in the tree and whoever finds it wins a prize. it is a european tradition that my family has been doing. also, for us, pumpkin pie, stockings, presents on christmas day, not eve, an orange and a toothbrush always in my stocking, always a present from santa (no matter how old we got), bing crosby, every christmas movie must be watched including the 24 hour marathon of a christmas story, driving around looking at lights with hot cocoa, and hallmark ornaments. there are more!

Re: Holiday Traditions
I know a bunch for new years. The yellow underwear for good luck, the twelve grapes one wish for each month, going around the block with bags to travel that year, have money in your hands at twelve and you will have money all year long.

Re: Holiday Traditions
My family always drives around on Chrismas Eve to look at Christmas lights - we still do that!
Also on Christmas Eve when we were kids, every year my dad would go out to 'buy the bread for Christmas dinner' He would leave through the back door (ie, go to the basement), and just after he left, Santa would ring the front doorbell bringing one gift for each of us - ironically, the bread store was always closed when my dad returned - just missing santa's visit!
