How does everyone deal with holidays now that you are engaged/getting married. DF likes to spend the holidays with his family, I like to spend most with mine. Hei is a creature of habit, likes his mothers cooking on the holidays, etc. I want to spend Easter with my Dad in NJ, so then I thought we could spend Thanksgiving with his family, then we split Christmas between the two families.....
How does everyone else deal with holidays and is anyone else going to have problems now that they are married, etc.?

Re: HOLIDAYS
Im so fed upw ith my fam...I am not even talking to them at the moment so I am spending easter in FH's house... I have a better time with them anyway...
But, usually my mom has her set holidays..like we do Xmas eve...and FH's fam does Xmas day so that works out.
My mom has a big dinner for Palm sunday ..

Re: HOLIDAYS
well i was very worried about this bc were both close to our families but we've been finding great ways to work it out.
Like for x-mas we went to church and then dinner with his family but spent x-mas day with mine...
Thanksgiving we did my house bc his family went upstate to his aunts house, we didnt want to drive up there...plus cant say no to my parents to go to someones house that is not immediate family.
For easter it should've been easy bc usually my easter is on a different date BUT of course when we are engaged it happens to fall on the same day, this only happens every 4 or more years to land on the same day...But fh said we'll do good friday at his house and easter at my house...He decided it too which was great, one he hates lamb but loves the way my mom cooks it so thats one reason why plus again his family goes to his moms good friends house for easter.
Its all about compromise, say we'll do this with your family next one with the other family.

Re: HOLIDAYS
FH is Jewish so that clears up Christmas... he spends it wiht me. Actually his family doesn't celebrate holidays so he spends them with my family. Once we are married I want to have Thanksgiving at our house.

We don't have a problem because I'm jewish and he is catholic so the catholic holidays we spend with his family and the jewish holidays we spend with mine

Re: HOLIDAYS
same here...we have been alternating holidays since we started dating...I usually get xmas eve and he get christmas day...then for thanksgiving and easter and all the other fun times...we usually do dinner at one house and dessert at the other...its always so hard b/c my family is so big with wives and a husband its hard to all be at 1 place for every holiday...we usually have Sunday dinners at my house...so its not really a big deal to miss a holiday

Re: HOLIDAYS
well since we started dating we change it up and hit up both families....
X-mas Eve: (well FH has been a family friend for 14 yrs so he has always came over on this dya for our BIG xmas eve party- we usually have about 75 people in my house fam, friends and its so fun)
but we go to church with my family xmas eve then after church we go to FH's house exchange gifts and eat an early dinner then we all go back to my house (even his mom/dad/brother and SIL) and have fun at our xmas eve party
X-mas Day: His family goes to FH's uncles house so FH and I go there for lunch/dinner kinda then back to my house for a late dinner/dessert and exchanging gifts with my moms side of the family (my moms side is small so only about 15 of us)
Easter: chruch with my family and dinner unless FH's parents Easter lands on the same day then we split the day dinner/dessert
Thanksgiving: Fh has only been home for one thanksgiving since we started dating and we did breakfast at my house dinner at his dessert at mine...(it ***** when FH is not able to come home cause of the silly Marines- I love thanksgiving)
am i missing any?? lol

no they're very similar, just a few differences here and there...Like our priests can marry, we dont believe in pergatory...Also we believe in icons not statues, catholics believe in statues not icons...and then a few other things but most things are similar

Re: HOLIDAYS
Well right now we spend all of them with my family :) because we don't want to see certain people of his family (not his parents we love them) plus I want to be with my family..lol But once we are married we will split the holidays unless we can't go because of his job.

Re: HOLIDAYS
we really made an effort this past year to split the days up. both of our mothers are widows, so it's important to both of them to see us on each major holiday. luckily our mom's live 5 minutes away from each other.
i take each holiday as it comes. some people get their feelings hurt, but we do the best we can.

Re: HOLIDAYS
well we swith each holiday. for example: Easter...morning:my parents house Breakfast/lunch and a movie: his parents house Dinner: my parents Desert: both families get together at one house Then the following holiday, we switch the pattern. I know it's a lot of driving but they are only about 10 minutes away, and we both like to spend parts of the day with our families....it seems to work for us. We've been doing this for 3 years now!

Re: HOLIDAYS
The FH has a big italian family so they do the whole fish eating frenzy on christmas eve. I love it. my family use to do it until my parents got divorced and my family moved all over the place.
The rest of the holidays we take turns.

Re: HOLIDAYS
Other than Christmas, his family isnt really big into the holidays, FH just spends the mornings with his Family and then comes and spends it me and my family.
For Christmas, we spend Christmas Eve with his family because that when they actually get together for dinner and such, which makes it easy for us because we only do something ON Christmas.
I cant wait till we're married and have a place of our own so we can host the holidays!
