holidays vent

holidays vent

I feel like I go to DH's family for ALLLLLLLLLLL the holidays! We only celebrate with my family when the holiday has more than one night.

We were there for Mother's Day and now he called Father's Day already too. It's really bugging me but when I say something about it, he says that we see my parents more than his... but the holidays are different. I love the holidays and I see myself being a bitter old grouch at this next one

I even told DH that I'm afraid that it will be my grandfather's last Father's Day I'm starting to hate holidays.. seriously.

ok vent over

Sorry your going through this...I know how it can be.
Can't you just split your time? Like have lunch or dinner with your family then go to DH's for coffee? vis versa...
Thats what we do and it's the best we can do. Or you can go yourself to your families house then meet with DH later.

I agree with the splitting of the day. That is what we do. We go to his family during the day and to mine at night. You need to make it work for both of you not just 1. If I was you and it may be my grandfathers last one I would DEFINITELY be with him at some point in the day. Sorry to say this but your DH is being a little selfish with this.

Thanks for the suggestions girls, but the problem is DH's family is in NJ so it's really not practical for us to split the day because of the travel.

DH just spoke to his dad and said that my whole family could go there if they want- but my grandfather will definitely not do that. He's not doing well and he is not going to sit in a car for 2hrs to NJ. DH also suggested my family doing it on Saturday instead. I don't want to sound like a baby here, but why can't HIS family do it on Saturday?

I know how stressful that can be. Is it evil of me to love living out of state, and avoiding all of that drama with FH's family. ..?
