As I mentioned earlier, FH and I never really set a 'budget' we didnt thave 20K set aside or 30,40 etc.. so whatever the # was we would figure out how to save for that. We searched around got different prices from halls, vendors etc and felt that all of our choices were within the range of what is out there. I finally decided to start tallying up what we have 'spent' so far.. and I wanted to keal over!... I totally was like, spending over 50K on a wedding is crazy blah blah... and now we are slowing cruising into that boat and beyond! YIKES!.. I love all of our choices, I just cant believe how it really does cost A TON!! to get married and have a wedding!..

I can definitely relate. I actually SET a budget at around 50k and find myself needing to go over (and we didnt even include the honeymoon yet!!) There are just SO many things i didnt factor in. I'm trying not to stress too much that I may need to sell a kidney to pay for it all!

It's very easy to go over for sure! Our budget is less than half that, but even on our smaller scale if you don't pay attention the costs can add up! And on Long Island prices are just ridiculous! I had to do a ton of looking around and make tough decisions to keep us under 20k (including honeymoon) but it's sooooooo easy to stray lol.

FH and I didn't set a budget either. I don't know how you can set a budget when you don't really know the prices of anything. We knew we wanted a RH that only did one wedding at a time which makes the pp price higher but we were fine with that. My RH alone is costing what my brother paid for his whole wedding 9 years ago. FH and I are hoping not to go over $60,000 when all is said and done. One thing that is important to FH and I is to make sure we are 100% happy with all of our choices regardless of cost.

It really is insane how quickly everything adds up. I definitely go back and forth on my view of spending this much money for one day. Of course I want it to be my dream day and have wonderful memories to look back on but the other part of me can't help but think how much money we would have if we just had a casual party instead!
However, I can say with certainty that I am positive I will love looking back on these memories in 30 years and will enjoy showing the pictures to my grandchildren. Makes our splurge on the photographer we love worth it :)

When we got engaged I looked online for the average price of a Long Island wedding - which is around $50K so that's what we decided our budget should be. It's nuts though because we're the third most expensive place to get married in the United States. I think #1 was NYC.

Oh I totally understand, we didn't even SET a budget. Once we started adding everything up, we realized how much we were going to be spending and got a little overwhelmed. My parents were really aggrivated that we never sat down and discussed a possible budget. I'm kicking myself in the *** now.

I really almost have panic attacks when I think about the cost of this wedding, I am very fortunate that I have family that is helping but I am constantly trying to keep the cost down for them. Shopping around definitely helps, I'm getting a great deal on a DJ (only 1395 for ceremony, cocktail, reception and lighting) and am trying to keep my photog around the 2500 mark. It is crazy how much little things like favors and invitations can add up!

I hear you our wedding budget is half of the average and we are doing everything we can to stick with it. The only things I might not be able to fit into our budget is possible my dress depending, accessories, bridal party gifts, and detail stuff.

Getting married on Long Island/surround areas and keeping a budget under 50 is SO HARD!!! I hate when I see things that say the avg budget for a wedding is 20k. WHERE?! NOT HERE! Grr..

Our budget is way lower than average and if we settled and went with a less expensive place we would have stayed under. But we fell in love so we are going a little over. But I'm saving in other areas like dj and photography since I just happen to have usefull family friends. I'm still freaking out about paying for it though.

Always try to talk down the vendors! Ask them where you can cut corners! The answers are their but you have to get it out of them!!!

I was just thinking about this yesterday as I was going through the budget with FH. I am so glad we decided to book our venue and things early because we have time to pay ahead. I would be so rushed and overwhelmed if all these payments came around the same time. Thankfully my family and his family are willing to help a bit with the costs. But sometimes I do wonder if it will be all worth it just for one day. I am sure it will be, but there are always those doubts!

The first thing I did was set a budget! Our budget is at half what most people are at and I really want to come out under budget :) haha!
I'm starting to get a little overwhelmed with cost as well. I sort of set a budget just to figure out where I should be at with each vendor, but after splurging on my photographer - I'm thinking, how am I ever going to stay within my 'budget'. However, the most important thing to us is to be happy with all our choices :)
