Holy Name of Mary!!

Soooooooooo I am getting married in a couple of months and our priest just called and canceled on us!!! I am soooooooooooooooo upset!!! Who are you guys using at the church?

Thank you Ali... I feel like Im going to cry We can still have our wedding there- but have to find another priest

FH keeps telling me not to worry- but how can I not? We already felt comfortable with Father Rob and we dont know any of the other priests

I just dont know know what to do How do I find THE RIGHT priest now with little time left.... I want to start screening the priests...and FH said we cant go in there and ask for meetings with different priests

Apparently, he is going to be out of the country. I yelled and screamed and Fh is calmer than I am...so he had to call the church back because I would have yelled at them too. Hes not even in today so now I have to stress about this all weekend until I hear back from him. I can book another priest, but I dont know any

2 girls mentioned Father Tom on the BHB thread, so Im going to give him a try and pray that he is available my date.

I cant believe this is happening so close to the wedding! I am already stressed out... I really dont need this right now

Thank you! I was sooooo upset because he didnt even leave a recommendation. He is really nice so I was surprised that he didnt. We tried calling him at the church just now and he isnt in today so we are going to have to wait...ughhhhh

Wait, okay... the priest just can't marry you but you can still get married in the church? I was thinking you needed to find another church. Still bad, but mot as bad.

Is it a Catholic church you need a priest for? I love our priest but he's based in Queens and I'm not sure if he travels. Where are you located?

Yea, so it could be worse... I could have no church... but I've just had a really bad day- and this was just the cherry on the top.

They didnt even say who was available or anything.... just to leave an email address.... but I want to talk to someone because you have to be comfortable with your priest.

Oh absolutely... honestly not to sound mean but if my priest couldnt do it I'd be screwed because the other two priests in my church are 1. a ninety year old priest who throws how evil Howard Stern is into every sermon and 2. an Asian priest who called godparents 'gossparents' during a christening I went to this weekend.

I'm so sorry you're going through this!

FFIL is a deacon so he is marrying us and his priest friend is doing the mass part.

Thank you! Yea, and to be honest.... I never thought it would acutally happen because its almost like unbelievable! The wedding is still on in that church, but now we have to find a priest that we are going to comfortable with. With all the stress from the wedding- I really dont need this stress right now

Yeah that is very important.. I don't know how happy I am with my priest situation but it is what it is I guess... I know I should have been more pro-active about finding someone but I literally just took whoever I was offered! Probably not a smart move!!

I am getting married at Holy Name too, by Father Tom.... LOVE HIM, he is great, I definitely recommend you meet with him and see if you're comfortable. He can be a little serious when you first meet him but I have known him for many many years, he is a friend of my family and he is the nicest man, really cares and I am so excited to have him marry us. He was away on a trip when my grandpa died and he cut his trip short and came home to do his funeral mass, he's that wonderful.

We girls forget that priests tend to get moved around a lot, they go on missions or whatever to other areas, unlike a vendor we can't always expect that in two years or however long a priest will still be there. At least the church didn't cancel on you, that's the important thing. I know how scary it can be that you could have an awful priest, my cousin's priest in Florida was kind of a nightmare but I don't think you can go wrong at HNOM... and Father Tom is the pastor there, a monsignor, unless he moves up in the diocese he will be there for a long time. I am sure you'll be happy with him!! Sorry you're bummed but I hope it all works out!
