i get cold sores and have been SO lucky during this pregnancy so far. But of course - in the homestretch- i just got a BAD one - from being sick I am sure. and I can't take my medication obviously - anybody have any home remedies?
Edited to say: it's my birthday on Wednesday ANd my shower on Sunday!

Put Abreva on it, its an over the counter cream, tiny tube and it costs about $17 but it is the only thing that works

My DH SWEARS by hot tea bags!
Just soak it in hot water and leave it on your lip for 20 minute intervals.
He said it works better than any medication he ever used.

Lisa I'll try that - so weird that yesterday I thought to myself - huh...why do I think teabags might work....
I don't think I can use Abreva cause of the wee one...but I guess I could call my doctor....ugh. I hate this. It makes me so sad to think there will be days when I can't kiss my itty bitty cause of this stupid virus.

can you take lysine? its not medication, just a vitamin. I've found it speeds up the healing. Lysine deficiency is a cause of cold sores.
Zilactin works well topically. And I like to keep the sore moist with blistex or chapstick (so it doesn't split or scab.
Can you take ibuprofin? It will ease the pain/pressure and swelling.
I can so sympathize! I've got one now myself, but I got the prescription stuff so it never really swelled up. Good luck!

i miss my VALTREX! that stuff would clear it up in HOURS. it's so darn uncomfortable. I will try the teabags. I don't want to take anything internally - I mean I can live with it if I have to - I just didn't want to look ugly on my special days!!!
Oh well - I guess I am lucky it's taken this long to get one. I thought I would have them for 9 months straight!
