Lisa- how do you like the new service from Cablevision? We are considering the switch, but we have to change our phone numbers My only concern is that if you want more than one phone jack you have to run wires to the other rooms, you cannot use the existing phone jacks- right?

We have Verizon, and we are going to switch our cell phones once the new keep your number plan goes into effect in November. I HATE the surcharges and taxes imposed by Verizon, they are astronomical really. I mean our $13 actually phone bill (calls only) adds up to 50 bucks after all is said and done...and the only thing we have is call waiting!
We are hoping mushing our cell phones and landline into one bill will help...paying only one set of surcharges instead of 2...

Re: Home Telephone: Which carrier do you use?
My husband and I love the Cable phone service! We have had it for 2 weeks now and havnt had any problems...*crosses fingers* its half the price of what we were paying for Verizon...$35 a month and we can make as many phone calls (any where in the Continental US) that we want to, for as long as we want!!!! The package includes, call waiting, caller ID, 3 way calling, & *69 (they call it call back). We were paying $72 a month with Verizon and didnt even have long distance. Harry will buy a phone card when he wants to call his family in El Salvador...he did that anyway because Verizon was just WAY too expensive to use!!
Michele...we have our 'main' phone (with answering machine) hooked up in the office where the cable modem is. Our other extensions are wireless and do not need to be plugged into the phone jacks in the room. They all work off of the base in the office!
Our 'phone' bill will now show up on our Cable bill...that doesnt bother me...all in one place!!
There is another company that offers it...caller Vanage (sp?). We also had that but each month were were getting this outragous bill with all sorts of fees so we cancelled
One more thing...our home phone (Verizon one ) is still hooked up. Harry and I wanted to wait to see if we liked the service before cancelling! Now that there is no problems...that is on my list of to do's this week!!
Let me know if you have any other questions~

I am a Verizon customer (have to be, husband works for the company). I do agree that their surcharges are stupid. With Verizon you can get your home phone and cell phone bill in one.
We only have local service on our home phone b/c we have free long distnace on our cells.

Lisa can you give me the information to find out more about the cable phone plan. We are moving in the next few weeks and it sounds like a good price compared to Verizon.
We are thinking of switching to the new service offered by Cablevision. I was a little leary because I switched once a few years ago to MCI. What I got was a ridiculous phone bill.I cancelled a month later and got hit with a reconnect fee to switch back to my old company. And what followed was several months of charges from both phone companies. Finally MCI issued me a refund after several months of billing when I wasn't even a customer. It was a nightmare!

We use AT&T at home, I think.
We pay $18 a month and pretty much never pick it up.
We use our cell phones for everything. We keep the phone line only for the DSL.

With the new cablevision voice phone, does your phone go out if your cable goes out?
