Does anyone make their own? I was wondering how you did it & what you make.

Re: Homemade Baby Food
I used to make carrots and sweet potatos. I would steam them until they were pretty well cooked and then put them in a blender. After blending, I'd push them through a fine strainer into a bowl. Then I scooped it into an ice tray (each cube is 1 oz.) and froze it. After they were frozen I'd dump them into a ziplock bag. When you're ready to use, just allow the cube to sit out or nuke it for 15 seconds or so. It made feeding time SOOOOO easy!

Did you ever make applesauce? My baby just started cereal. I thought that would be a good first to try. What kind of apples are the best to use?

It turns out really well when you use golden delicious apples to make applesauce.

Thanks! I'm not crazy about apples & I wasn't sure which to buy, there are so many to pick from.

Is it necessary to use organic fruits & veggies? Do regular supermarkets sell it or do I need to go to Whole Foods?

Re: Homemade Baby Food
I make all of my own babyfood, expect for cereal and applesauce. I buy organic applesauce from the store- don't pay the high prices because it is in a baby food jar! Banannas are usually a better first food. Apples are introduced after 7 months- at least according to the Super Baby Food Book. That is what I use as my guide and for recipes.
how do you like this book, aside from the recipes? I was going to order it but noticed they seem to have alot of corrections or clarifications I guess to the 2nd edition. Is this a problem for you? Or are they just being cautious to further explain some items in the book?

Re: Homemade Baby Food
Thanks everyone for the help. I didn't know about waiting on the applesauce. I gave him the organic jar one & he liked it. What is the reason to wait? I thought banannas would be to thick to start with.
I was going to buy the Super Baby Food book, But looked a bit complicated to follow.

Re: Homemade Baby Food
The writer is a bit of a wacko- as are all only organic, make your own yogurt types IMO. I use it more like a cookbook, and I did NOT introduce food as early as the book suggested (since it was not written since the latest reports tell you to wait until closer to 6 months). I use it as a guide, not a bible.
