getting engaged is one scary thing when you think about it- and fh went through all the scares before he gave me the ring, so along with it, you accept what he has already accepted- this is your life partner.
as with any big commitment/decision you always make sure you are doing the right thing. i can definitely understand some having feelings of cognitive dissonance. however, i was so sure about fh that there were no doubts at all.
weve dealt with alot in the past 4 years and our love for each other has only grown stronger.
to know this person is going to be by my side forever is such a comfort and makes me so happy. so, in essence, i am doubt free!

I think if you do that's natural. You are taking a major step when you decide to spend the rest of your life with someone. I think a lot of doubts come from a fear of the unknown. Sometimes I get scared because I hope that things will always be as good in the future as they are now between us. Sometimes, I do fear things beyond our control (or at least mine) that can affect that. But, I am in it for good or bad, richer or poorer, and we are strongly committed to each other and to growing together so, when I remember that it I am comforted.
wow, that was really well said! i think my 'doubts' are the same as yours. sometimes i just look at my FH and say to myself 'this is who you will be with for the rest of your life' and think, whoah! but then i realize that that is completely ok with me because i love FH and he is such a wonderful man :)

No doubts about marrying FH. He is my best friend. We have been living together and sharing everything for so long. I sometimes feel we are already married.

if you are having serious doubts—back out. Your happiness is worth more than any money you put into the wedding. I was engaged before, and i backed out. Thank GOD!!!!! I'd be a divorced by now if I didn't. FM if you have any questions.

Re: Honestly, Does anyone have any doubts???
I had serious doubts! DH was a royal pain in the A$$ while we were planning. I was so happy and he kept bringing me down. He does not handle stress or multitasking very well. He wanted to be involved, but every time I'd ask his opinion on something, he'd freak. Of course I had already made the decision, I just wanted him to feel apart of it all. We never really fought until then.
Once the rehearsal day came, (we did it two days before the wedding) everything changed. He was happy and calm and we had the best weekend of our lives!
The first couple of months were not so easy either. But now we are loving life and marriage.

Re: Honestly, Does anyone have any doubts???
I think it's titally natural t have fears and doubts. Your whole life is changing, your identity your lifestyle, everything. With the divorce rate so high, how cna you NOT have doubts. I look at divorced couples, and I think 'they felt this in love and this on top of the world at one point too' and ti scares me. I have a lot of fears now that my parents are getting divorced after 32 years of marriage. I aways figured if you make it past the first 5-10 years you're home free, but I guess not.
I think a great book if you're hvaing doubts is 'what no one tells the bride'
It talks about the natural fears and doubts that women go through...there's also another book calle dhte conscious bride and they both talk about all the pressure for everything to be this 100% happy fairytae when it really never is

Re: Honestly, Does anyone have any doubts???
For us - the stress of the wedding, buying a house, and a change of career for me caused us some trouble. Not really doubts so much as the fact that we handle stress differently - and we both take everything personally.
Our relationship really changed, but we learned alot.
So perhaps its the stress that is making life difficult.

Re: Honestly, Does anyone have any doubts???
i will say i sometimes do have doubts- but i think that is totally normal!! the planning process is SUPER stressful right now, plus on top of it we both work (FH crazy hours) and I have school, i volunteer 5 hours a week for big brothers big sisters, one day a week i have to sit with fh's sick grandfather, i just finished the aids walk which i worked my a$$ off fundraising for, plus my family is all upstate- it is alot of pressure and being engaged is no fairytale. things are getting better though and i know this is just a bump in the road
anyone who needs to talk fm me - i am here for all of you girls

Re: Honestly, Does anyone have any doubts???
I don't have any doubts about my FI and I don't doubt his feelings for me. But the fact that he was married once b4 does scare me a lil bc I don't want history to repeat itself. Thinking about it logically, this man didn't want to get married again until he met me and changed his mind. That wouldn't have happened unless he was absolutely, positively sure! And he knows this is my 1st time, so altho he learned from his mistakes he knows I still have to make mine. I actually thought about it, since 1/2 marriages end in divorce and his 1st one already did, that means this 2nd one for him will be fine!
