Honeymoon
Hello, I am getting married in November and I was wondering if anyone was changing their honeymoon plans. I have to fly to Puerto Rico and tehn we are taking a cruise to the souther carribean. My family does not want me to go. I was just wondering what other people are doing. We paid for it all, but safety before money. Also, does anyone know what would happen if we decided not to go? Would we get a voucher or something? Thanks

Depends on the cruise line, whether or not you took the insurance -- as for deciding to go or not it is your personal choice-- some will say dont others will stay you must--my mother is out of the country right now and has been for the last 2 weeks-- was she concerned yes- but can we continue to live like that --I would hope no-- I hope you make the decision that you and your fiance want not what others are telling you Laura

Honeymoon
I am getting married October 20, 2001 and we had booked a cruise on the Mediterranean for 2 weeks. We decided to cancel. I'm glad that we did with everything going on over there now. I know that it is not happening where we would have been, but it is too close for comfort. We booked a package in Disney World for 4 days/3 nights and will be staying at my girlfriends condo for the rest of the 2 weeks. We plan on taking the cruise for our 1 year anniversary. When we booked our cruise, we took out the insurance so when we canceled, we got back almost all of the money that we paid for the trip. I usually never take out the insurance, but for some reason I felt that we needed too. Call it a premission, but we are thankful that we did. Good Luck Lisa

Honeymoon
I saw a previous post on the newlywed board that said a cruise company is not obligated to refund your money if you cancel (unless you take the insurance). This is b/c they still have to run that particular voyage, whether or not you decide to join them. As far as your choice to cancel, I would really think about it carefully before you make the decision. I don't think that Puerto Rico and the Southern Carribean are particularly vulnerable, but it depends on your comfort level. Remember that you have to be happy and enjoy the honeymoon, not worry the entire time. I think if I had planned a cruise in Europe, I would reconsider. But, everyone in our country is now taking so much extra precaution and security. We have to get back to life as we knew it before 9/11/01, as difficult as that might seem. Best of luck!

my two cents...
I've gone on two trips twice since the attacks - Once to Spain and once to NY (I live in CA). My mom didn't want me to fly (especially to Spain) - I was attending a wedding there and a lot of the guests cancelled. But I felt comfortable enough to go. I would recommend you go on your honeymoon in the caribbean. We can't live our lives in constant fear - that's letting the terrorists win. If you think you'll be too nervous to enjoy yourself, cancel, but otherwise enjoy it!

Did you get cruise insurance? That may cover at least some of the costs if you cancel. You should be very safe on the cruise ship considering that the security checks have been doubled now. We are still going on our Honeymoon to Hawaii. We leave November 4th.

My wedding is Sept 2002, and I was thinking about going on Mediterran Cruise. Where did you book your cruise? How much did it come out to? Where were you flying into to catch the ship?

Honeymoon
We are getting married october 20, and leaving for our southern caribbean cruise on october 22. We decided to go and have fun. Like others on the board have said, you have go on with life---we cannot let these people dictate what we do or don't do. The bottom line is that you have to feel comfortable with what you will do for the honeymoon, cause it is a time to reflect and concentrate on you and your new husband and NOT ON SAFETY and BEING WORRIED. I'm sure whatever you decide, it will be memorable! Good luck.

If you feel that you will not be able to have a good time due to the problems then post-pone your trip. But I think Puerta Rico should be fine. I would not go to the Middle East or near that area right now but it is a very personal decision.Welcome New Vendors
